Established in 1980, TNC’s Hawai‘i program has forged partnerships to manage over 2 million acres of natural lands and has grown to include Palmyra Atoll. We currently manage 14 preserves and other sites in Hawai‘i and Palmyra Atoll. In Hawai‘i, we work with government agencies, private landowners, businesses, community partners and local stakeholders to protect and restore Hawai‘i’s native watershed forests, coral reefs, and nearshore fisheries for both their ecological value and the many benefits they provide to people. At Palmyra Atoll, a National Wildlife Refuge 1,000 miles south of Hawai‘i, we facilitate research in this living laboratory to better understand and address global questions around sustainable fisheries and resilience to climate change.

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERThe Government Relations Manager plays a key role to support The Nature Conservancy and its conservation partners at the state and local level to affect public policy and funding initiatives to support conservation. This position serves as a liaison and informational contact between the organization and Hawai‘i state, local, and occasionally federal elected officials, agencies, multilateral institutions, business/private groups, and other relevant stakeholders. The Government Relations Manager provides advocacy, research, and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy’s government policy and funding priorities and tracks policies and decisions that affect conservation goals. This position builds and facilitates external and internal networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. The Manager provides services that assist in influencing the outcome of policy at the state and local levels primarily, and may support efforts at the federal and international levels, when appropriate. This position develops strategic partnerships with relevant elected officials, agencies, community groups, conservation organizations, industry, and other stakeholders to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with legislative, planning, policy, or community initiatives in the state of Hawai‘i to advance identified goals.
Experience presenting information to educate and communicate with government officials, agencies and/or community partners.
Experience working with varied partners, government agencies and the Hawai‘i State Legislature on initiatives while respecting political and local community cultural sensitivities and concerns.
Experience with researching and analyzing local, state and federal laws, policies, and programs in Hawai‘i.
Experience cultivating and sustaining relationships and working effectively with a wide variety of people.
SALARY INFORMATIONThe starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $69,800 – $73,190 for annual base salary. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
