The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking attending physician in the Psychiatric Emergency Service.
Job Description:
Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, physical exams and medical clearance; initiates appropriate treatments including medical workup and medication management;
Coordinates assessment and treatment with the interdisciplinary treatment teams in the Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) and the Psychiatric Emergency Unit (PEU);
Completes appropriate clinical chart documentation in a timely manner that is in compliance with hospital, state and federal requirements; demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family issues, including age, gender and cultural diversity;
Performs efficiently in emergency situations, including adherence to established clinic and hospital-specific protocols;
Coordinates care with outside providers when necessary; and manages basic medical issues with consultation of appropriate other medical specialties for more complex medical problems.
Individual attending coverage is generally 32 hours of shift coverage per week (4 eight hour shifts) including overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts, with an additional eight hours per week of administrative time that could include teaching/supervising trainees, work on quality improvement projects, research in emergency psychiatry, or other related duties as discussed with the Medical Director of PES and the Medical Chief of Service.
