The YMCA of Great Grand Rapids utilizes a

framework, which is a member involvement and community building model for YMCAs across the country. All staff membersfront-line, management, full- and part-timeand volunteers have a role to play in member engagement. These responsibilities can be broken into six steps:Enrollment:

POSITION SUMMARY:The Aquatics Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations, implementation of the branch aquatic programs, and meeting the aquatic needs of the community for our Wolverine Worldwide Family YMCA. The Director will ensure a safe, fun area for children and adults to interact and enjoy. This position requires face-to-face leadership in these programs and
may involve early morning, evening, and/or weekend responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Program and Community DevelopmentAdministers swim lessons and aquatic programsScheduling of Aquatic classes, programs, and staffLifeguard/Swim Instruction as neededDevelops and promotes programs with local schools, mailings, and press releasesPrepares and distributes rosters and schedules instructorsDistributes and collects program evaluationsImplements preschool movement programsAudits payroll reportsIncreases the number of participants, groups, and programsImplements Character Development in programsAdministers emergency First aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)Handles parent/member complaintsHuman Resource ManagementSupervises Aquatic department staffCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association's policies and applicable lawsSets goals and objectives for each staff memberMakes annual salary increment recommendationsFills staff vacancies in accordance with established Association policiesSupports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteersInterviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses staff complaints and resolves problemsFacility ManagementMaintains pool and deck equipmentOrders and maintains pool suppliesMaintains proper chemical stabilizationEnforces safety standardsFollows emergency proceduresEnsures State of Michigan's Department of Health requirements are metMaintains all areas in clean, presentable fashionAssists in overall branch quality and cleanlinessFiscal ManagementManages and monitors the department operating budgetManages the department annual budget developmentMonitors monthly budget and year-end forecast for all program areasAssists with Annual Campaign fundraising effortsMembership Development and RetentionProvides outstanding member serviceRegisters aquatic participantsParticipates as Manager on Duty as assignedVolunteer DevelopmentRecruits, trains, and rewards a diverse volunteer groupAssists in cultivating volunteers from the membership and participant basePerforms any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; one - three years of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Past supervision experience preferred. Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. Working knowledge of a computer and experience with a variety of software applications. Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. YMCA experience preferred.
