Job Summary:As a member of the Academic Urology team, participates in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care of urology patients in the office (outpatient).Diagnose, treat and manage urological disorders such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones and prostate issues.Perform various surgical interventions including cystoscopies, nephrectomies and prostatectomies.Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.Provide patient education about conditions, treatment options and post-care management strategiesThis position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:Required:Completion from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program, Family Nurse Practitioner Program, Adult Nurse Practitioner Program or Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.

Experience:Required:Preferred:Minimum of three years experience in a physician office setting preferred

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/RegistrationRequired:Current licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Tennessee

Department Position Summary:An NP/PA in Academic Urology will work under direction of the physicians/medical director. He/She will be responsible for developing evidence based protocols and utilizing them to develop an individualized plan of care. He/She must be able to collect, document, and analyze patient data. They must be able to collaborate with the health care team in the development and implementation of testing and treatment according to protocols. He/She must be able to participate in development and implementation of health screening program for adolescents and adults, and develop protocols for identification of high-risk individuals. He/She must participate in community and corporate education on urological topics.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over their life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. He/She must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.

The individual will participate in clinical research & may assume the responsibility of research coordinator including but not limited to education & enrollment in clinical trials.
