Occupational Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Admissions, the Admissions Officer is part of the team that recruits prospective students and reviews applications for admission to Duke Law School. This position has a particular role in the Law School's efforts to develop a broadly diverse applicant pool. Strong interpersonal skills and strength in written and oral communication are essential, as well as the ability and willingness to learn about Duke Law's programs and culture. Interest in or exposure to legal study and practice is helpful but not required.
Work Performed
Analyze qualifications of prospective students utilizing established law school admissions standards, guidelines and criteria, and reviewing with supervisor as appropriate; submit evaluations and recommendations to the Assistant Dean regarding admissibility of applicants.
Counsel prospective students, applicants, and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic programs, student life, and career opportunities. Answer inquiries via email and telephone.
Travel extensively to represent Duke Law School at college law fairs and Law School Forums; give effective and compelling presentations about the Law School.
Host online information sessions for applicants, providing an engaging overview of opportunities at Duke Law and the application process, and answering questions from attendees.
Conduct online scholarship interviews of admitted students and submit written evaluations following a standard rubric.
With the Assistant Dean for Admissions, help to develop and coordinate programs designed to effectively recruit underrepresented minority students, including direct-mail and electronic communications, on-campus events involving current students and faculty, and visits to feeder schools. Develop and maintain productive relationships with student organizations, prelaw advisors, faculty, and student affairs personnel affiliated with historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other undergraduate institutions that may serve as feeders for law students of color.
Assist and participate with other staff members having special project responsibilities with the coordination of activities designed to accomplish established objectives, including the annual on-campus program for admitted students.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education
Work generally requires a knowledge and understanding of college experience and student life obtained through the attainment of a bachelor's degree.
Experience
Two years of experience as an Admissions Officer or the equivalent at a comparable college or university. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
