The Indirect Category Leader is a strategic role in the procurement and supply chain management of a company. This position is primarily responsible for managing and optimizing the company's indirect spend across various categories such as IT, HR, Marketing, Professional Services, Facilities, and others.
The Indirect Category Leader will oversee the development and implementation of procurement strategies aimed at achieving cost savings, improving efficiency, and managing supplier relationships. The role requires a strong understanding of market trends, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to align procurement activities with the needs of internal stakeholders.
Key areas of responsibility include market research, supplier selection and management, contract negotiation, risk management, compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and reporting on procurement and spend activities.
The Indirect Category Leader will work closely with various departments within the company to understand their needs and ensure the procurement strategies align accordingly. The role requires strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills. The ideal candidate will have a background in procurement or a similar role, preferably with experience in indirect category management. Overall, the Indirect Category Leader plays a crucial role in the company's financial health and operational efficiency by effectively managing the company's indirect spend.
Category Strategy Development:
Develop and implement procurement strategies for indirect domestic spend across various categories such as IT, HR, Marketing, Facilities, Professional Services, and others.
Conduct market research to keep up to date on the latest industry trends and best practices.
Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management:
Manage the supplier relationship including supplier selection, contract negotiation, performance evaluation, and supplier development.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and align procurement activities accordingly.
Monitor and manage risks related to indirect spend to ensure business continuity.
Performance Measurement and Improvement:
Establish key performance indicators & daily management/visual management (DMVM) structure to measure efficiency of sourcing activities & drive improvement in quality, delivery, cost & working capital.
Conduct regular business & performance reviews with selected suppliers.
Find opportunities for process optimization and implement standard methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Talent and Team Development:
Effectively lead team in establishing department objectives and prioritizing aligned with business objectives.
Demonstrate through leadership behaviors the importance of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity (IDE) in building a community where everyone belongs.
Understand career aspirations & development needs of team members and jointly build actions to achieve objectives.
Cultivate a positive collaborative working environment within team and measure results through employee experience survey.
Qualifications - External
Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject. Master's degree preferred.
Proven experience (min 5-7 years) in strategic sourcing, category management, and/or procurement.
Demonstrated ability in people management and teamwork.
Proven record in developing and implementing successful sourcing strategies and delivering measurable results.
Strong negotiation skills and ability to lead sophisticated supplier relationships.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach.
Outstanding communication and social skills, with the ability to influence partners at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
