The Associate Director, Communications is a critical contributor to the successful execution of the McDonough School of Business communications strategy by ensuring that the activities surrounding faculty research, thought leadership, student successes, and programmatic differentiators are communicated to both internal (McDonough and GU faculty, staff, students, and alumni) and external (business leaders, employers, prospective students, influencers, etc.) audiences. The Associate Director will establish a communications strategy in collaboration with the directors and communications staff from each center and initiative while also serving as a liaison between centers, admissions, advancement, and Dean’s Office staff to ensure there is alignment and coordination on all communications and marketing projects to support the school’s goals. The Associate Director also broadly assists with media outreach and communications strategies for schoolwide programs. Duties Include, but are not limited to:

Serve as a liaison between the McDonough Office of Marketing and Communications and MSB stakeholders.

Collaborate with the school’s centers in developing and executing communications such as press releases, website content, brochures, newsletters, magazine articles, and other communication modes.

Serve as Office of Marketing and Communications point of contact on signature events held by the school’s faculty-led centers, school initiatives, and programs.

Write and distribute press advisories about school-wide and center/initiative events, research, and announcements ; coordinate with media who attend events or respond to story pitches.

Serve as a backup to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Work Interactions

The Associate Director reports to the Georgetown McDonough Director of Marketing and Communications. This role will involve contact with all levels of university administration, alumni, students, and faculty. The Associate Director of Communications will also coordinate with all members of the Office of Marketing and Communications, Live Wire Media Relations, Events, and Alumni and External Relations teams, and the Dean’s Office. Throughout Georgetown, this person will coordinate with related centers and initiatives at other schools, as well as staff in central communications.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor Degree

3-5 years of progressively responsible communications or marketing experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading

Excellent organizational and project management skills

Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to shifting deadlines

Experience managing clientele and stakeholders or agency experience

Experience with website content management systems, such as Wordpress

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred

Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

Experience with AP style

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
