PURPOSE OF POSITION: Mercy Home for Boys & Girls seeks a Philanthropic Advisor to cultivate, solicit, and steward qualified planned and major gift donors. Some donor prospecting will be involved as well, in order to qualify donors who are willing and able to support the mission of Mercy Home with a planned or major gift in the future. Some marketing responsibilities will be involved as well, as a tool for cultivation and stewardship of our donor audience. The Philanthropic Advisor will act as a conduit between the donor and the organization, helping the donor to fulfill their passions, while generating revenue for the mission. The ideal candidate will be donor-centered, an adaptive thinker, an agile problem-solver, and well-versed in giving strategies, philanthropic practices, and fundraising practices in a nonprofit organization. Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of nonprofit fundraising, with at least five years related work experience (preferably in the areas of planned giving or major gifts) Excellent interpersonal communication skills (in person, on the phone, in written letters and emails, and through handwritten notes– communication is the most essential asset for this position) Proven track record of meeting/exceeding established financial goals Attention to detail and superior organizational skills Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects, and monitor the progress of objectives Ability to work independently as well as an active team member Ability to maintain confidentiality Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences Willingness to ask questions, learn and be coached Comfortable sharing thoughts, ideas, knowledge and opinions Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the Agency Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and willingness to become an expert in various software programs used by the Agency Flexibility to travel (2 4 consecutive days at a time, possibly including weekends) Flexibility to work a schedule that may occasionally include evenings or weekends Willingness to volunteer at Mercy Home Fundraising Events A positive attitude and sense of humor are essential qualifications for this position ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Communicate effectively with donors to tell the story of Mercy Home, and show how their gifts help build a brighter future for kids in need Use a working knowledge of major and planned gifts to suggest the best gift vehicle for a donor Prepare and implement a Moves Management plan for each managed donor Exhibit a track record of success in managing donor relationships and closing gifts Keep diligent records of every donor interaction in Mercy Home CRM Maintain stewardship relationships with all donors who are a part of the Archangel Society, Mercy Home’s legacy society Visit existing planned and major gift donors, both locally and nationally, maintaining approximately a 20% travel schedule (including local travel). May include occasional weekends Meet or exceed annual revenue goals, as well as other metrics set for each gift officer and the team Attend professional industry meetings and conferences, and develop a network of fundraising professionals (including attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and other fundraisers) Assist in the development, design, and logistics of preparing marketing materials for the Philanthropy Team – approximately 15 print pieces per year
