Description

The goal of the fellowship is to provide specialized training in complex coronary surgical revascularization techniques beyond cardiothoracic surgery residency training. The complex coronary Fellow will work at the discretion of Dr. John Puskas and function across the Emory University Hospital Midtown location as well as other Emory Healthcare sites.

The complex coronary Fellow will receive advanced training in all arterial off-pump coronary surgery and be responsible for the following knowledge areas and skills sets including, but not limited to:

Treatment of complex coronary disease with multi-arterial or all-arterial no aortic touch off pump techniques;

Preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative patient care of complex adult surgical conditions, including multivessel coronary disease

Serve as surgical first assist on complex coronary procedures under the direction of the Medical Director and other cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons;

Train other cardiothoracic surgery residents and/or fellows on the diagnosis and treatment of complex coronary disease;

Interpretation and assessment of diagnostic imaging studies;

Participation in both emergent and elective adult cardiac procedures;

Independent completion of critical portions of the complex coronary procedures (i.e. key anastomoses, performance of re-operative sternotomy);

Independent completion of basic cardiac and coronary cases at the direction or under the supervision of the Medical Director;

Additional education and scholarly pursuits as determined by the Medical Director to support the mission of the complex coronary surgical program.

ALL candidates must possess the following credentials: (1) Completion of an ACGME accredited cardiothoracic residency program (2) ABTS Board Eligibility (3) A current (or eligibility for) a Georgia medical license and DEA license.
