General Summary of PositionUnder the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in performing routine technical duties such as compounding, packaging, distribution, IV admixtures, electronic order entry, inventory control, and storage of pharmaceutical items. Fills routine orders for nonprescription pharmaceuticals

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesContributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Reads handwritten prescriptions and prepares labels which, accurately and understandably, represent the abbreviations and symbols contained in the prescriber's written directions.Assists in the review and implementations of automated equipment such as computers, robotics, dispensing and packaging equipment.Readily retrieves accurate, appropriate information from printed sources such as: United states Pharmacopeia, American Hospital Formulary Service, Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR), Facts and Comparisons, etc.Prepares sterile, parenteral products, such as intravenous admixtures, using proper aseptic techniques.

Must be familiar with the noxious, flammable, or caustic chemicals used in extemporaneous compounding.Serves as a pharmacy liaison with hospital associates and patient care units via telephone and in person.Accurately performs compounding, mixing, measuring, manufacturing and packaging of drugs, according to established legal and professional standards.

Accurately performs necessary calculations.

Accurately performs measuring, weighing, mixing, diluting, counting and transferring procedures.

Skillfully performs trituration, levitation and other manipulative dispensing techniques.

Under the direction of the pharmacist, combines drugs and pharmaceutical adjuvants to produce aesthetically presentable drugs.Packages and stores drugs in a manner which maintains stability, security and proper appearance while in clinical use or storage. Orders, receives and maintains stock of drugs and related supplies.

Performs efficient inventory control.

Stores controlled, hazardous drugs and chemicals under proper security.

Requisitions pharmaceuticals and supplies.Responsible for daily and/or monthly floor checks, and for completion of the Medication Quality Improvement Rounds form, in order to assure compliance with J.C.A.H. Standards.Performs other duties as assigned and maintains the requirements of clinical ladder.

Minimum QualificationsEducation

High School Diploma or GED

1 year 6 months hospital or general pharmacy experience preferred andGeneral under-standing of pharmacy aspects preferred

Licenses and Certifications

PHAR-C - Certified Pharmacy Tech (CPHT) Certified as a Pharmacy Technician.
