Job Duties

The VDOE Office of Special Education Family Support and Special Facilities is seeking qualified individuals to support activities that advance student learning and academic achievement of children with disabilities who are placed in private schools for students with disabilities; provide leadership and support to private schools for students with disabilities; and (3) provide highly complex managerial, technical, and analytical services to facilitate effective monitoring activities to ensure compliance with federal and state special education requirements and the Regulations Governing the Operation of Private Schools for Students with Disabilities, and improved student outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of federal and state regulations concerning students with disabilities, administration and supervision of specialeducation programs; state and local government policies, procedures, and organizational structures; and curriculum and effective instructional practices.Skills in technical writing, coordinating, leading teams, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting technical and complex information to various audiences.Skills in word processing and presentation software.Demonstrated ability to define problems and apply problem solving techniques to complex educational issues; to work collaboratively with colleagues; to work with parents in an inclusive and problem-solving manner;Manage multiple assignments with critical deadlinesPresent complex information to professional and lay audiences, orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Graduation from an accredited college/university with a degree in education-related field; advanced degree preferred.Extensive experience working with parents and school personnel, specifically in resolving conflicts between parents and educators. Experience working with local school divisions, private school administrators, and state agencies that work with children with disabilities.
