Responsibilities
The
Physician Assistant
functions as an advanced practitioner providing healthcare for a caseload of patients in the area of clinical specialization. They will work collaboratively with the physician partner on patient rounding, admission and discharge work. Examines and treats patients independently and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals following established standards and practices. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Relies on education, experience, professional training and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under minimal supervision under the direction of the collaborating physician, as appropriate. May lead and/or direct the work of others within the scope of practice.
Qualifications
Education and Training:
The applicant must demonstrate successful completion of an educational program for physician assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or by that committee's predecessor or successor entities. Current unrestricted State license as a Physician Assistant. Applicant must hold a valid and current certificate issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) and must possess a current ACLS certification. The applicant will submit evidence of continuing education (CE) as required by their state licensing board. Physician Assistants are required to complete 40 hours of Continuing Medical Education per year.
Experience:
To be granted general physician assistant privileges, the successful applicant must have at least 12 months of clinical PA experience. The applicant must have a collaborating or sponsoring physician who is an active member of the medical staff and is listed with the State Medical Board as supervising physician for this applicant. The application must have acceptable peer references acquainted with his or her current professional status and have firsthand knowledge of his or her clinical abilities.
