Job Specialty: Ultrasound Technologist (General, OB/Abdomen, Small Parts)
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 3 years
License: Licensed as Ultrasonographer or Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer
Certifications: Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent approved certification with current OB experience
Must-Have: MFM experience required
Job Description:
- Provide healthcare services using sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment, specializing in ultrasonic imaging and related procedures for OB/GYN, with the option for general ultrasound exposure.- Demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention requested by a licensed practitioner and/or Maternal Fetal Medicine Perinatologist, employing professional judgment and maintaining medical ethics.- Apply appropriate patient care and recognize conditions essential for successful procedure completion.- Perform diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to Detailed Anatomy, Multiples, Twin to Twin checks, and fetal Dopplers.- Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure information, ensuring all details are documented for licensed practitioner use.- Prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.- Select and operate ultrasound equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results, positioning patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.- Determine ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.- Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.- Verify informed consent and assist a licensed practitioner with interventional procedures, practicing aseptic techniques as necessary.- Provide physical and emotional support to patients during procedures, acting according to institutional policies regarding contrast media and medications administration.- Initiate basic life support actions when necessary and maintain knowledge of Universal precautions.- Educate patients and assist in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and policy guidelines.- Assume responsibility for the assigned area, report equipment malfunctions, and provide input on equipment purchases and supply decisions.- Provide practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals and participate in departmental quality assessment and improvement initiatives.- Contribute to quality control duties, manage inventory, and understand and apply patient relations skills.- Pursue continuing education required to maintain licensing or certification, and fulfill other duties as assigned.- Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited sonography program or equivalent qualification.
