The Know Your Customer (KYC) Office is an AML function under Financial Crimes, embedded within the Firm's business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Morgan Stanley, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Responsibilities:
The KYC Office Risk and Control Lead is responsible for providing oversight of Risks and Controls across the KYC Office, managing Issues and Action Plans while driving the implementation of end-to-end solutions required in response to any identified gaps, coordinating responses across the KYC Office during regulatory exams and/or audits, supporting governance forums required for execution monitoring and oversight. This role will work closely with leaders across Financial Crimes and the KYC Office to oversee risk management processes. Specific responsibilities include:
> Provide oversight of Risks and Controls across the KYC Office; develop inventory of Risks and Controls and oversee ongoing monitoring / assessments of the performance of Controls.
> Manage oversight of KYC Office Issues and Action Plans; perform root cause analysis when concerns / Issues are raised, develop Action Plans to resolve gaps, ensure accountability of deliverables and drive progress of solutions through active engagement with various stakeholders and timely closure of Issues.
> Serve as central exam and audit coordinator for the KYC Office, responsible for partnering with the Financial Crimes Risk Governance and PMO team during regulatory exams and/or audits; coordinate responses across the KYC Office teams as appropriate.
> Support governance forums required for execution monitoring and oversight; establish / maintain an operating cadence of required meetings, coordinate meeting materials with relevant stakeholders, and record and track action items.
> Support the technology investment process; coordinate KYC Office requests with prioritization and confirm funding in partnership with the Financial Crimes Risk Governance and PMO team.
> Execute on strategic initiatives and support efforts that drive a cohesive and holistic strategy across teams.
Qualifications:
Required Skills / Qualifications:
> Experience documenting and/or assessing organizational Risks and Controls; possessing passion for establishing and maintaining a culture of control within the business while keeping the stakeholder experience in mind.
> Experience with managing high priority Issues and/or projects involving coordination and collaboration across teams and/or departments.
> Experience working internal auditors, external auditors and/or regulators on audit requests, regulatory exams, or high priority projects.
> Ability to direct and drive senior stakeholders towards a common goal with high emotional intelligence.
> Ability to operate with confidence and comfort in high-paced and high-profile environments.
> Pragmatic problem-solver and forward thinker with thought leadership, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and resourcefulness.
> Detail oriented, with proven ability to understand, question and identify opportunities within existing operational processes and business practices by leveraging previous experiences and knowledge of the business.
> Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), build strong relationships, and negotiate and influence decisions.
> Comfortable presenting to and interfacing with senior personnel, including on highly sensitive issues.

Required Experience:
> 7+ years of risk management, compliance, control, and/or audit experience in a bank or financial services institute with a demonstrated record of success and/or growth.
> Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
Additional Skills Desired:
> Certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license is a plus.
