Why does the job exist?

This position will be responsible to receive, compose, edit and submit reports of allegations of abuse and neglect referrals from youth via text message/online for all counties on a statewide basis. Position will engage with youth on concerns, needs, and provide resources and/or submit an abuse and neglect referral.

How does it get done?

  • Receive reports of alleged child abuse and/or neglect from youth via text message/online. (40%);
  • Utilize appropriate judgment in the screening process per CYFD policy and procedure and worker professional standards. (20%);
  • Gather all relevant information by the caller for appropriate screening determination. (20%);
  • Mentor new workers in the unit and promote staff development by providing support to co-workers in skill-building and program development. (20%).


  • Ideal Candidate

    Experience as it relates to:
  • Working directly with Children, Youth, and their families;
  • Partner with Community Service providers as it relates to Children, and Youth;
  • Working with Youth in a school setting;
  • Determining eligibility for services that might be needed for the Children, Youth and Families;
  • Conduct and complete assessments of safety, risks, strengths, and family needs;
  • Developing Safety plans for the Children, Youth and Families;
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings;
  • Identify, provide, and/or arrange timely assessments/evaluations/ interviews;
  • Conduct medical case management activities for eligible clients.


  • Minimum Qualification

    Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Family Services from an accredited college/university. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

    • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.

    • If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

    Employment Requirements

    Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting with extensive exposure to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and phone usage. Travel may be required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. The Statewide Central Intake operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
