The Compliance Officer (CO) is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of Ronald McDonald House of New York's Compliance Program ("Program"), including developing and facilitating the delivery of training strategies. This role functions as an independent and objective role that reviews and evaluates compliance issues and concerns throughout the organization and monitors systems and processes in place to promote compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct. The CO shall report on the Program directly to the Chief Strategy, Partnership and Branding Officer and the Compliance Committee, with access to the Board of Directors, as appropriate. The CO will serve as an ambassador throughout RMH-NY to provide guidance to employees regarding the Company's values and facilitate employees acting with integrity in their roles.

The salary range for this role will be 100K - 120K. This will be a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.

Role/Responsibilities
  • Knows, understands and demonstrates RMH-NY's mission, vision, and values in leadership behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Serves as Chair of the RMH-NY Compliance Committee, confirming that the committee meets regularly and ensures appropriate representation and participation of key management and staff consistent with RMH-NY guidelines.
  • Oversees the development, initiation, maintenance and revision of policies and procedures for the operation of the Compliance Program and their related activities to prevent and detect illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops and implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar issues in the future.
  • Oversees the development of an annual compliance work plan based upon results of the risk assessment.
  • Develops methodologies for and oversees the implementation of auditing and monitoring activities in accordance with the annual compliance work plan.
  • Develops compliance metrics and data for reporting to the Chief Strategy, Partnership and Branding Officer and the Compliance Committee.
  • Detects potential for fraud, waste, and abuse and identifies aberrant patterns and trends through data analytics.
  • Develops and oversees the implementation of educational materials and communicates the importance of ethical behavior to all employees, board members, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Directs regular risk assessments of the activities and operations of the company and uses the results to establish or modify appropriately components of the Program.
  • Implements and maintains effective lines of compliance communication throughout the organization, including the implementation and use of a Company-wide compliance hotline and facilitating heightened awareness of the Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the performance of the Program on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis, as directed or requested, to inform the Chief Strategy, Partnership and Branding Officer, Compliance Committee, and Board of Directors of compliance efforts.
  • Communicates and liaises with senior management by:
    1. (1) keeping them apprised of their obligations under the Program;
    2. (2) establishing and maintaining an appropriate "tone at the top";
    3. (3) assisting in the coordination and implementation of compliance activities in their business operations; and
    4. (4) evaluating compliance-related performance of employees.
  • Maintains current knowledge of laws and regulations and keeps abreast of new and changing regulations as they take place.

Qualifications & Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or Juris Doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a healthcare regulatory and compliance environment, with 5+ years of demonstrated experience in an influential leadership role preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of healthcare regulatory landscape, including HIPAA.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures and effective training related to the Program.
  • Good management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate others in a positive manner.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize work and schedule effectively.
  • Willing and able to foster the team and continuous quality improvement concepts.

Work Environment

  • This job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events as well as mechanical equipment
  • Some weekends and evening hours may be necessary for this job
