Job DescriptionEastern State Hospital is seeking BC/BE Psychiatric NP/DNP to assist with locum tenens coverage. Experience working with an acute and chronic adult inpatient population is required, and forensic population, preferred.Details for the assignment are provided below:
Assignment:oAvailable to start immediately (pending credentialing)oInitial Appointment for 3-month assignment, with option to extend 3 -6-month assignment, if the position remains unfilledoFull-time, 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break, no alternative schedules acceptedoNOT approved for overtimeoNo weekends, no holidays, no on-call dutyoAbility to provide cross coverage, to include forensic populations, as requiredoOnce a month, participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
Qualifications:o3+ more years as a Physician/PractitioneroStrong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI)oPsychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plusoExperience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.oComfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnoveroAbility to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment teamoBLS Healthcare Provider certification is required
Position Details:oFacility Hospitalizations: Acute, Adult, Inpatient wards (male & female)oFacility Demographics: Forensic, NGRI, Civil, Jail Transfer, and Geriatric populationsoFacility Stay: Short and Long-term length of stayoCaseload varies by ward and assignment (40-45)oPsychiatry coverage is providedoFull complement of interdisciplinary team members
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:oResponsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.oServes as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.oCompletes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.oOrders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.oMonitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.oConsults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.oCollaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.oProvides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.oPrescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.oEnsures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
