Sr SQL DBA JOB DESCRIPTION
The SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environments SQL 2012-2022 in 24/7 environment. Day to Day responsibilities include production support, access provisioning, dba related tasks, monitor systems alerts, technical reviews. Participate in on-call rotation. Provide assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas. Document the company’s database environment.
Responsibilities
Provides 24 x7 support for various SQL databases, including all levels of troubleshooting. Performs the role of level 2 and level 3 operational support including acting as a focal point on managed database incidents.
Responsible for performance tuning and analysis, performance reviews, database health checks, the configuration of all aspects of SQL Server, support, and configuration of database backup and maintenance jobs.
Responsible for the configuration and implementation of complex monitoring tools for reporting and alerting on the significant application and system-level events.
Create and design database structures and standards to solve operational issues.
Project long-range requirements for database administration in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
Responsible for automation of both simple and complex tasks across the database function. Mentor and knowledge-share with members of the database team.
Act in an operational consulting mode to validate new technology to be introduced into the environment.
Responsible for relaying SQL Server-specific information through a presentation layer to the broader Cigna IT community.
Qualifications
High School diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience with database standard concepts, practices, and procedures is required. The ability to track these items within a large-scale environment and communicate to diverse groups accordingly.
Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision as well as provide direction and oversight to application team partners and other members of the database team.
5 or more years of work experience in the SQL Database field.
Extensive database administration skills in SQL Server 2016 and below as well as the ability to quickly learn SQL Server 2019 features and capabilities
SQL Server replication, AlwaysOn high availability, SSIS, SSRS, SPLUNK, Idera DM, DDBoost, Cohecity.
In-depth Windows Clustering, Windows Services, and Windows Server Configuration knowledge
Knowledge of Active Directory as it relates to SQL Server
Knowledge of storage and network layers as they relate to SQL Server
SQL database upgrade experience (in-place upgrades, initial configurations, service pack updates, driver installs and updates)
Database performance monitoring and tuning and capacity planning skills Excellent PL/SQL and SQL PLUS Development and tuning skills are plus. Automation/development in Ansible, Splunk, Python or other like tools is a must-have
Understanding of server resources and how they interact with and impact SQL
Automation tool experience with Ansible, Rally, UDeploy, Powershell or other like tools
Comprise very strong verbal and written skills, including the ability to produce excellent documentation
Ability to work on-call schedule.
Ability to change work shifts due to deployments.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 109,500 - 182,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
