The State and Local Sales and Use Tax team provides valuable advice to our clients on solving their most pressing sales tax issues. Our sales tax consultants work across a wide variety of industries and tax jurisdictions to assist our clients in identifying solutions and making informed decisions through researching tax laws, representing clients in tax controversy situations and recommending strategies to minimize their sales tax liabilities. 

Senior Manager, Sales and Use Tax, for RSM will be responsible for the following job duties which are focused around three core concepts (Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent sales and use tax advisory and planning services to multi-state companies - approximately 60% of your time
  • Continued business development of State and Local tax practice by generating new revenue on existing client portfolio, cross-selling, and growing new client relationships for the tax practice - approximately 30% of your time
  • Serve as a Performance Advisor, mentor, or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback - approximately 10% of your time
  • Ability to integrate with clients, local and regional RSM SALT teams, the overall RSM tax team, and RSM audit and consulting colleagues
  • Manage the following types of sales and use tax consulting projects; technical research memoranda, nexus studies, exposure quantification, voluntary disclosures and other sales tax mitigation strategies, audit defense and appeals, reverse sales tax audits and other sales tax refunds, ASC 450 reviews, due diligence, and other state tax consulting projects
  • Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value, quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients and other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Requires one of the following: CPA, CMI, JD or LLM
  • Requires a minimum of eight (8) years of experience providing sales and use tax consulting services in a public accounting, consulting, or law firm
  • Require thorough knowledge of a variety of state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, policies and procedures, as well as tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits, and state controversy work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires the ability to travel up to 25%.

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $137,700 - $276,700

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
