Position Summary:The Director of Campus Operations and Capital Management is a member of the Operational Leadership Team and is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for all activities in building operations, capital management, and maintenance to ensure clean, safe, efficient, environmentally healthy, and structurally sound facilities that offer students and staff the best possible atmosphere for meaningful instruction and learning. The Director's professional conduct and management style should reflect a forward vision using industry best practices to improve and maintain the physical appearance of the campus, as well as to ensure high-quality, sustainable, planned maintenance programs for all facilities, including campus buildings, electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, grounds, utilities, and open spaces.
Duties and Responsibilities:With a strong focus on serving the needs of the school community and a commitment to quality, the Director provides leadership in facilities management for school-wide operations and ensures that all school facilities and grounds are well-maintained and support the educational mission of the school.The Director provides direction and technical assistance to architects, engineers, and contractors on all new construction, renovations, and operating maintenance of existing facilities.The Director maintains effective relationships with community contacts, vendors, and other outside constituents interfacing with the school.The Director works with design professionals to assist in the preparation of bid documents and specifications for capital and operating projects and direct and oversee any construction and renovation activities.The Director will plan, budget, and schedule facilities' modifications, including needs analyses, project projections, pricing estimates, bid documents, and contracts for construction and acquisitions. They will use sound judgment to utilize resources to the maximum benefit of the institution.The Director will work directly with the COO/CFO to develop long- and short-term financial plans to address deferred maintenance needs.The Director establishes work rules, policies, and processes and leverages technology to ensure maximum productivity and efficient delivery of services. They demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.The Director engages with administration and trustees in all aspects of facilities maintenance and planning.The Director will ensure that all school departmental standards are met and that facilities management is advancing the school's mission.Position Requirements
Qualifications:
A strong leadership profile: articulate, diplomatic, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and commitment and collaborative teamwork. Excellent customer service and presentation skillsExperience leading the capital planning process and the life cycle delivery of large capital projects. Deep knowledge of the regulatory environment, including construction permitting requirements, workplace safety requirements, and environmental regulationsStrong service orientation and an understanding of both the service and stewardship missions of the schoolAbility to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty, and administration clearly and effectivelyExperience and knowledge of implementing environmentally sustainable solutionsStrong financial acumen, budgeting, and decision-making skillsDemonstrated commitment to and experience in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion work in an independent school or similar environmentCommitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development
Physical Demands : Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
