Job Description - Wireless Communications Engineer (22069)DescriptionIdaho National Laboratory is hiring a Wireless Communications Engineer to work in our Spectrum Innovation department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off.You will specialize in research, development, and implementation of wireless technology. It is the sub-discipline of electrical engineering dealing with wireless communications systems such as transmission systems; circuits and electronics; network synthesis, architectures, and filters; antennas; fields and waves devices; system simulation and modeling techniques; and equipment operating systems and their vulnerabilities. Design and develop prototype communication systems that adapt to unique operational environments with technologies that may include wired, wireless (RF & optical) links, line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) links, SATCOM, IP networking, RF systems, protocols, software defined radio (SDR), 5G (and beyond) cellular and cognitive radio. You will report to the manager for Spectrum Innovation.Responsibilities Include:Conduct research, development, demonstration, and deployment for wireless communications technologies. Use design methodologies, technologies, and processes which are best practice for the technical discipline to develop and define a design, and to validate that the design meets defined requirements.Provide radio frequency (RF) wireless communication solutions for a range of wireless communication systems including high frequency (HF), ultra-high frequency (UHF), millimeter-waves and other radio frequencies.Ensure work is performed in a safe, secure, cost-effective, and compliant manner, consistent with the INL mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures and within defined cost, scope, and schedule.Maintain and enhance technical skills and other capabilities in support of the INL mission.Develop design documentation, maintenance and configuration of wireless communication systems, and research and development of advanced wireless communication techniques. Document the design (controlled and approved models, drawings, specifications, design descriptions) to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.Research and development activities associated with the advancement of communications techniques, such as new transmission methods, or for improving the security, efficiency and/or reliability of the wireless communications system infrastructure.QualificationsLevel 1: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related field.Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related field and 2 years relevant experience.This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.Job Information:The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496).
