We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Area Director of Sales to lead the sales efforts for a new dual-brand Marriott hotel opening early 2026 and its adjoining large events space located at Thompsons Point, Portland, Maine. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality sales, with a focus on catering and event space sales, along with exceptional leadership skills. You will be responsible for driving revenue across both the hotel and event facilities, building client relationships, and collaborating with local business partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy Development:
Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies to maximize revenue for the new dual-brand Marriott hotel and the events space.
Analyze market trends, competition, and customer needs to identify opportunities for growth.
Pre-Opening Leadership:
Collaborate with the executive team to establish sales goals and strategies for the successful launch of the new dual-brand hotel.
Lead pre-opening sales efforts, including setting up sales process, working with marketing team to create materials, and building relationships with potential clients.
Client Relationship Management:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients, corporate accounts, and event planners.
Represent the hotels and events space at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions.
Prospecting for New Business:
Actively prospect for new business opportunities, focusing on weddings and corporate events that will also be utilizing the events space and needing sleeping rooms.
Develop targeted outreach strategies to attract potential clients and secure bookings.
Revenue Management:
Collaborate with revenue management teams to optimize pricing strategies and inventory management for the hotels.
Monitor and report on sales performance, adjusting strategies as necessary to meet targets.
Event Profitability and ROI Analysis:
Utilize knowledge of event profitability and ROI to evaluate and optimize event packages and pricing.
Analyze performance metrics to ensure the financial success of events and make recommendations for improvement.
Catering and Menu Pricing:
Collaborate with culinary teams to create innovative and appealing catering options that meet client needs and preferences.
Develop catering strategies for larger future events in conjunction with the events facility team.
Marketing Collaboration:
Work closely with the marketing team to create promotional materials and campaigns that highlight the hotels and events space.
Ensure brand consistency across all sales efforts and marketing initiatives.
Event Coordination:
Oversee the sales efforts related to the events space, ensuring seamless coordination with the events management team.
Develop packages and offerings that attract corporate and social events, particularly weddings.
Qualifications:
5+ years of sales experience in the hospitality industry, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Experience with hotel pre-openings, particularly in dual-brand environments, is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of hotel sales and marketing strategies, including event sales for weddings and corporate functions.
Knowledge of event profitability, ROI analysis, catering, and menu pricing.
Proven ability to drive revenue growth and exceed sales targets.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
Proficiency in Delphi/Sales software and sales reporting tools.
