Job SummaryThe Chief Information Officer (CIO) will develop, plan, and implement an information technology (IT) strategy that meets the University's business needs, delivers optimal return on investment, and maintains utmost security. The CIO will establish and direct the strategic long-term goals, policies, and procedures for Information Technology Services.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversees projects and assignments within the Information Technology Systems (ITS) department.
Leads efficient operation of the team so that prompt modernization and upgrades of the various information systems are performed as needed.
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Coaches and mentors ITS Directors and managers.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and develop the information technology blueprint for the university that will include a focus on reducing manual processes, strengthening internal controls, and enhancing technological capabilities.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the ITS department including directing staff, who support administrative computing, networking, user services, telecommunications, and other information technology functions.
Provide leadership and technology guidance within the university. Meets with students, faculty, and staff to discuss requests, clarifications, recommendations, and feedback.
Resolves resource deployment issues. Provides oversight for each ITS department and its resources.
Manages budgets and purchases. Identifies areas for streamlining and implements cost-saving measures. Evaluates external technology purchase requests to ensure the requests align with University goals and can be incorporated into the technology environment.
Researches and evaluates new technology. Meets with developers, integrators, other colleges and universities, and USG to discuss possible solutions to challenges and improvement opportunities. Participates in product and service demonstrations. Presents technology solutions to University administrators.
Coordinates campus-wide technology projects. Identifies opportunities, defines goals, and develops plans for projects, including improving current services or introducing new products or services.
Consult with administration, department managers, and vendor representatives to exchange information, present new approaches, and discuss equipment/system changes.
Participate in vendor contract negotiations for all new computer equipment and software purchased for the university.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
A master’s degree in an area related to information management and technology or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of extensive experience in the administration of information systems and technology, with an increasing level of responsibility throughout.
Desired Qualifications
Seeking a candidate with experience working in a college/university setting; and possessing knowledge of various enterprise environments, including Banner, PeopleAdmin, Oracle, ARGOS, Workday, Microsoft, and Apple.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The successful candidate must have significant experience in the actual operations, maintenance, and implementation of major information systems, including computer networks, enterprise-level computing systems, and personal computer hardware and software and security.
Project management experience must include research, planning, and actual implementation of major computing systems.
Must be able to demonstrate your expertise in the management of information systems and in the management of information technology personnel as well as the experience to directly carry out information systems functions anywhere within the University.
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally as well as in writing; have the ability to develop and maintain harmonious relations within the ITS department, faculty, and staff at Albany State University (ASU).
Must be able to maintain constant technical expertise in all areas of information technology and information security at ASU and maintain flexible hours based on the needs of the University.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
