The City of Roanoke is seeking an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney I to perform responsible professional work in the enforcement of criminal laws under the Commonwealth of Virginia and ordinances under the Code of the City of Roanoke. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offense cases and other criminal cases as determined by the Commonwealth's Attorney. Additional job responsibilities include prosecuting cases before the General District, Circuit, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts of the City of Roanoke and assisting in the interviewing of witnesses and victims of crime where directed and rendering guidance and legal advice where appropriate. Law degree from an accredited law school; five to ten years related experience and/or training in the practice of law; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Must be a law school graduate licensed to practice in the state of Virginia or pending bar results.

Assists in the preparation of misdemeanor and traffic offense cases and other criminal cases as determined by the Commonwealth's Attorney.Prosecutes cases before the General District, Circuit, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts of the City of Roanoke.Assists police officers in the preparation of criminal trials.Researches legal opinions and assists in preparing briefs where directed.Assists in the interviewing of witnesses and victims of crime where directed and renders guidance and legal advice where appropriate.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Limited supervision of clerical assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.QUALIFICATIONS
