I. Position Summary
The Director of Alumni Relations develops and implements strategies to foster lifelong global engagement with alumni, students and the Malone Community. The primary objective of the Director of Alumni Relations is to create and maintain pathways for alumni engagement with the University through various channels such as events, communications and University support, as well as providing programs that provide tangible benefits to alumni and current students in alignment with the University Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.
II. Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Lead all efforts toward engaging alumni as committed stakeholders and donors.
Lead and assist with high-profile signature events such as Homecoming and Commencement, as well as a wide variety of functions including, but not limited to, award ceremonies, educational events, athletic and other affinity group reunions, networking events, regional programs, tailgates/pre-game activities, receptions, dinners and board meetings.
Develop a strategic and sustainable program to keep alumni involved in the life of the University by utilizing them in recruitment efforts throughout the country.
Direct and facilitate the organization and meetings of the Malone Alumni Board, with goals for assisting the University with outreach, visibility, career and internship opportunities and overall networking.
Engage alumni by securing commitments to provide professional expertise and volunteer service, planning alumni events and regional programs and communicating through direct contact, email blasts, electronic newsletters, alumni web pages, print publications and social media in collaboration with the Malone Alumni Board.
Direct and facilitate student activities to increase student awareness of the Malone University Alumni Association through services, programming, and special events.
Collaborate with Malone University coaches, faculty and staff to plan, promote and publicize team and affinity group reunions and events.
Collaborate closely with Advancement colleagues in increasing support from alumni, routinely identifying alumni prospects for gifts, and communicating Advancement-related activities via written contact reports and periodic attendance at prospect management meetings.
Assist with updating alumni information in Raiser’s Edge, maintaining alumni email contact lists, and development of websites, e-newsletters, other written communications and the Malone Messenger.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.

VI. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with the Foundational Principles, Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan of the University. Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of related experience preferred; experience designing, planning and implementing events; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
A proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is essential. Proven effective relational skills are also required. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and complete projects independently is essential. Computer literacy is required, a readiness to navigate the Development database (Raiser’s Edge) is essential.
Proven time management skills, the ability to prioritize and record keeping abilities are essential. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive materials is essential. Current valid driver’s license and availability for limited regional travel is required. Hours per week are anticipated to vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the events and fundraising cycle.
Evening, weekend and overnight commitments will be necessary at times.
