Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.HDR is currently seeking a senior Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineer to lead engineering design tasks in the planning and design of fish passage and protection structures throughout the Northeast and in the United States. The successful candidate will lead technical design tasks, perform engineering design, and expand their technical capabilities in this field. Experience in the design of upstream and downstream fish collection facilities, fish passage and screening, acclimation facilities, and aquaculture water treatment is desirable. We also welcome candidates with experience in engineering design of hydropower, dams and levees, or water resource projects. Experience in the development of plans and specifications for bidding and construction is desired. The successful candidate will join a strong fisheries team and have the opportunity to collaborate directly with nationally recognized senior fisheries engineers and biologists.The preferred location for this position is in Portland, ME, or Syracuse, NY, although other locations and hybrid arrangements may be possible depending on experience.In the role of
Senior Fish Passage Engineer , we will count on you to:Lead development of plans and specifications for bidding and construction documents of new and renovations to existing fish passage and protection facilities.Develop designs to meet industry standards and federal and local codes, laws, and regulations, including development of engineering calculations, technical memoranda, reports, alternative development and evaluation, feasibility analyses, and long-term planning documents.Communicate with and solicit input from owners, operations and maintenance staff, regulatory agencies, construction contractors, subconsultants, and other stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and direct communication.Analyze existing and new hydropower facilities, open channel conveyance systems, pressurized and open channel pipe networks, raw water intakes, site layouts, building function, concrete and earthen holding and rearing ponds and raceways, RAS and PRAS systems, pump stations, pollution abatement and settling ponds, and sorting, handling, storage, and mechanical/electrical buildings, as aligns with your technical experience.Support development of cost estimates at planning, conceptual, preliminary, and final design phases.Direct and guide work of CAD and BIM staff in the development of bid and construction drawings.Provide engineering support during construction, including review of submittals, response to RFIs, and review and development of contract modifications.Interact with clients, develop scopes of work and fee proposals, and manage projects.Identify client needs and develop proposals with marketing staff. Lead marketing initiatives.Perform other duties as needed.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.NCEES registration.Extensive experience in the design, layout, and evaluation of fish passage and protection structures.Experience developing or incorporating biosecurity, bio-programming, and RAS/PRAS.Considerable knowledge of fish passage and protection structures construction and maintenance requirements and techniques.Understanding and experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery related projects, water conveyance, storm water networks, civil grading, water treatment, wastewater treatment and pump stations.Experience developing individual or system-wide fish passage and protection structure plans.Experience with Tribal, State and Federal fish and wildlife program managers.Initiative-taking or self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of tasks.Required QualificationsA minimum of 10 years design experience managing various civil/site design projects.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Project Engineering and Project Management experience.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.What We BelieveHDR is our company.
