Job Description Summary
Under the general guidance of the Director of Sales & Marketing, the Group Sales Manager is responsible for effectively soliciting and becoming familiar with all accounts in his/her market segments. He/she is also responsible for prospecting and closing on assigned accounts/territory to positively impact hotel revenues.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication.
Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Food and Beverage, Guest Services and Reservations.
Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOP’s, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team. Meet or exceed set goals.
Prepare and execute sales contracts, assist with creating group resumes to ensure quality product delivery and customer satisfaction.
Initiate and follow up on leads.
Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program.
Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your market.
Meet or exceed sales solicitation call goals as assigned by the Director of Sales and Marketing.
Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, tours and site inspections.
Assist in implementing special promotions relating to direct sales segments.
Be familiar with all Sonesta sales policies.
Conduct a professional, thorough site inspection of the property.
Operate within established sales expense budget.
Specific Job Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Three years of hotel sales experience preferred.
Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and have a high level of attention to detail.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments.
Ability to work independently and to partner with others to promote an environment of teamwork.
This job requires ability to perform the following:
Frequently standing up or moving within and outside of the facility.
Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with others; demonstrated ability to interact with guests, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the brand and the Company.
Ability to utilize computer software and hardware required.
Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when completing paperwork and management reports, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions, and training.
Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, and organizational abilities are used often.
Ability to travel to attend workshops, tradeshows, conventions, etc.
Valid Driver’s License.
May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
