Job SummaryThe Lead, Storage and Backup Administrator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of UCSF storage and backup systems. The Lead will provide senior expertise to the Storage and Backup team in executing daily operations, including installing, configuring, and operating storage and backup systems, as well as migration of storage solutions to the cloud. The Lead will coordinate partnership with a broad range of customers, partners, and key University stakeholders to provide best-in-class storage and backup solutions.
This role will drive the designing, provisioning, monitoring, upgrading, and capacity planning for the storage and backup environment, as well as provide technical expertise for day-to-day operations, ensuring optimized performance and compliance with data security and University policies. The Lead will manage urgent and complex issues by setting customer expectations, coordinating implementation plans, and being available as required and professionally communicating to all parties involved.
The Lead will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the University's mission. This role will execute UCSF's vision while modeling UCSF's culture and values.

The Platform Services team within Infrastructure Services is committed to empowering the academic, medical, and research mission of UCSF by ensuring that all customers have seamless, secure, and accessible technological support. The team oversees the management and maintenance of various technology platforms, including system and cloud services, to guarantee they are secure, readily available, and performing optimally.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.
5+ yrs experience working in 1 or more of the following fields: storage administration, information technology, or network operations.
Demonstrated experience in information technology, platform services, or storage and backup administration.
Advanced knowledge of and experience working in SAN, NAS, DASD, fiber channel, and cloud storage environments.
Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience in delegating responsibility, tracking project progress, supervising others, and advising teams on competing priorities.
Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills; scopes solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders.
Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications
CompTIA Storage+ or equivalent
SNIA Certified Storage Professional (SCSP) or equivalent
