Performs complex engineering work and oversees engineers through the review of project submittals with the goal of achieving compliance with Metro standards, directives, and project objectives. The position will provide specialized technical and project management input for the design and construction of transit facilities to advance the project through the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases of the project. The Senior Engineer will also coordinate and review design and construction submittals to ensure conformance to Metro standards and shall facilitate the disposition of review comments in a timely manner.Examples of Duties
Plans, organizes, assigns, implements, and manages engineering projects in accordance with budget and schedule requirementsInteracts with user departments in response to service requests; researches and gathers all necessary details to determine engineering functional requirements to meet project user needsProvides engineering design services and design support during construction; provides support for project bid and award phase, construction management, closeout, activation, and startup activities for bus and rail transit projectsSupports development of workplans, safety guidelines, maintenance requirements, and operational needs for design projectsReviews contract documents, shop drawings, specifications, RFI (request for information), and DDR (detailed design review) for compliance with codes, project specifications, and Metro criteriaReviews designs for quality, constructability, and cost effectiveness; recommends design changesAssures project compliance with design criteria and standards, workplans, safety guidelines, maintenance requirements, and operational needsManages Contract Document Required Receivables and project budget for assigned projectsUpdates and enforces the Metro Design Standards and CriteriaPrepares preliminary design documents for future projectsCoordinates projects with utility companies, railroad, and city, county, and state agencies when requiredMakes field visits for research and inventoryParticipates in the engineering configuration management process to maintain current engineering records for bus and rail facilities and systemsWorks with in-house engineering and construction disciplines, consultants, and/or contractors to identify and resolve problems which may impact the progress of the project or users existing or planned operational performanceProvides resident engineer and quality control inspection servicesProvides guidance, coaching, training, and oversees the work product of employees in area of expertiseContributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried outMay be required to perform other related job duties.Selection Procedure
