Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), Atlanta, Georgia, United States, 30383

Overview:

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit, applied research division of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Founded in 1934 as the Engineering Experiment Station, GTRI has grown to more than 2,900 employees, supporting eight laboratories in over 20 locations around the country and performing more than $940 million of problem-solving research annually for government and industry. GTRI's renowned researchers combine science, engineering, economics, policy, and technical expertise to solve complex problems for the U.S. federal government, state, and industry.

Georgia Tech's Mission and Values

Georgia Tech's mission is to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. The Institute has nine key values that are foundational to everything we do:Students are our top priority. We strive for excellence. We thrive on diversity. We celebrate collaboration. We champion innovation. We safeguard freedom of inquiry and expression. We nurture the wellbeing of our community. We act ethically. We are responsible stewards.Over the next decade, Georgia Tech will become an example of inclusive innovation, a leading technological research university of unmatched scale, relentlessly committed to serving the public good; breaking new ground in addressing the biggest local, national, and global challenges and opportunities of our time; making technology broadly accessible; and developing exceptional, principled leaders from all backgrounds ready to produce novel ideas and create solutions with real human impact.

Project/Unit Description

The Kill Chain Analysis Branch is part of the Electromagnetic Warfare and Survivability Modeling and Simulation (EWSMS) Division under GTRI's Electro-Optical Systems Lab (EOSL). The Kill Chain Analysis Branch develops modeling and simulation tools to perform comprehensive end-to-end analysis of kill chains associated with various platforms and munitions, including red and blue systems, and informs force-on-force and/or campaign-level simulations. EWSMS provides modeling, simulation, and analysis of platform and system effectiveness and survivability in one-on-one, few-on-few, and many-on-many scenarios, as well as comprehensive kill chain analysis.

Job Purpose

The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming. The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering. Additionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Perform data cleaning and fundamental data analysis using existing tools with senior guidance.Execute algorithm tests in accordance with limited direction from senior researchers.Contribute to algorithm design discussions.Design and/or modify aspects of algorithm design and implementation.Contribute to technical report execution.Participate in sponsor discussions of program technical status and research results.Accompany lead engineer to sponsor sites for meetings and analysis.Accomplish specific technical and writing objectives for the development of conference presentations and journal publications.Aid in literature searches.

Additional Responsibilities

Design, develop, and execute mission and engagement-level scenarios in AFSIM.Design, develop, test, and implement sensor, effector, process, and behavior models and plugins into AFSIM.Employ models, and advanced analytical, mathematical, or statistical techniques to analyze the outcomes of US, allied, and adversary forces executing warfighting concepts of operation.Identify capability and limitations, and make recommendations on ways to reduce/eliminate vulnerabilities and limitations based on additional modeling and analysis.Advise operations research analysts, scientists, or engineers on techniques best suited for tasked problems, to include the best way to calibrate campaign-level models to represent the effects determined through mission and engagement-level modeling.Support pre and post-simulation analysis using AFSIM, MATLAB, Python and other appropriate tools.Employ in-depth stakeholder knowledge of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures, Operations Research, and Concepts of Operation to inform a variety of analyses and studies.Other tasks as assigned.
