About The Team:
The Sr Manager/Director of Instruments, Scopes, and Accessories will lead multiple small technical teams of engineers and technicians developing complex medical robotic instruments, scopes, and accessories. This individual will interface closely between various cross functional teams including Clinical, Marketing, Systems, Robotic Controls, Electrical Engineering, Software, Manufacturing and Operations. We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive, well rounded individual willing to take ownership and operate with minimal supervision in a fast paced product development environment. The ideal candidate will have past success developing novel robotic medical devices while working closely with other cross functional teams.
A Day In The Life Of Our Sr Manager/Director of Instruments, Scopes, and Accessories
:
Manage and provide technical leadership for multiple teams of mechanical engineers and technicians to design & develop complex medical robotic instruments, endoscopes and accessories.
Guide multiple mechanical and other cross functional engineering teams to rapidly develop novel feasibility and proof of concept prototypes.
Manage and guide the leaders of multiple 2-4 person technical teams focused on the same.
Interface between various cross-functional teams to fully define product requirements and implement creative solutions in a fast paced environment.
Develop and maintain detailed product development project plans with associated schedules and successfully execute against them.
Prioritize close collaboration between the development team with NPI and manufacturing team for seamless transfer to production.
Manage and guide the teams to design and develop assembly/testing tools/fixtures to aid in assembly and conduct in process manufacturing quality assurance.
Participate and lead design reviews, dFMEA and other design de-risking & documentation activities.
Provide leadership and oversight for the teams in developing the finished product design documentation package including component and assembly drawings, product requirements, specifications, test methods, protocols and reports in support of V&V activities.
Lead continuous improvement programs to improve the performance of the robotic instruments and/or reduce the cost and complexity of the instruments.
Manage and mentor engineers and engineering managers/leaders within the technical teams and cross functionally to reach their full potential.
About You:
12-15 years of demonstrated success in leadership of teams that design and develop complex medical devices, including scopes, instruments and accessories.
7-10 years of demonstrated success in building and managing high performing technical teams
Deep knowledge in medical device product development including single use disposables, robotic applications in medical space and/or endoluminal medical device development.
Deep knowledge in at least one or more of the following domains - flexible articulating shafts, endoscopy, robotically controlled mechanism design, machined and molded components.
Proven ability to prioritize between critical project activities and make progress simultaneously.
Experience leading engineering teams to transfer new product designs to manufacturing including component qualification, V&V testing, complete product specifications, detailed drawings, process validations, and assembly instructions.
Hands on experience with risk analysis, risk mitigation and dFMEA.
Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary, cross functional teams.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards such as IEC 60601-1 and FDA 510 (k) submission process
Excellent communications skills and the ability to explain complex problems in plain language to cross functional teams.
Must have prior experience working in a fast-paced startup (or similar) environment.
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Bio-medical or related disciplines, M.S. or PhD preferred
