Institutional Advancement Communications Exempt, Grade 1.4 Location: Hybrid - Adelphi, MD The Assistant Director, Annual Giving will play an essential role in articulating how philanthropy supports UMGC’s mission, values, and strategic priorities by assisting in the development, management, and oversight of the comprehensive Annual Giving Program at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). This position will ensure UMGC is a leader among its peers, creating and delivering dynamic philanthropic experiences for the global community of university constituencies designed to strategically solicit and steward lifelong, meaningful relationships supporting the UMGC student experience. Primary Duties: This position oversees the creation, management, and implementation of a strategic annual giving plan that is aligned with UMGC objectives. The comprehensive plan will include solicitation and stewardship communications through multi-channel activities targeting UMGC’s alumni, employee, and friend constituencies. Key fundraising initiatives may include integrated programming across direct mail, telemarketing, SMS, and email. Management will include utilizing analytics tools and predictive modeling to assess communication segmentation and improve results. The Assistant Director will be responsible for monitoring critical metrics of giving participation, average gift size, donor retention, acquisition, upgrades, and return on investments. Annual revenue goals supporting university priorities will be established for each of the annual giving initiatives with an emphasis on securing unrestricted support. Proactively research and keep abreast on trends in the field of higher education advancement, annual giving, and philanthropy; suggest new initiatives and/or improvements to enhance UMGC’s fundraising outcomes including donor retention, reactivation, and acquisition. Working collaboratively with the Director, assists in the identification, recruitment, and training of volunteers as needed to enhance Annual Giving activities. Supports personal solicitation of annual gifts from key constituencies to include UMGC employees. Serves as the primary institutional liaison with all vendors and external stakeholders involved in UMGC’s Annual Giving Program including the day-to-day management of key activities and deliverables. Works collaboratively with the Office of Advancement’s Communications, Alumni Relations, Development, and Advancement Services Teams to create, coordinate and execute dynamic messaging in support of annual revenue goals. Supports the Office of Institutional Advancement events including day-of-event activities and participation as needed. Required Education and Experience: 4-year college degree 1 to 3 years experience Type of Experience: Direct experience in fundraising, preferably in annual giving with emphasis on direct mail, telemarketing and personal solicitation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Additionally, successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to handle complex tasks, formulate plans, carry out objectives, and interact effectively with individuals; proficiency in written communication creativity, and well-developed organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and ability to work independently and effectively with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies. Travel is required. The appropriate equivalent of sales, marketing, or business development experience in the for-profit sector may be considered in lieu of fund-raising experience. This position can be remote, but the candidate may be asked to attend specific events or meetings (note: UMGC will cover the costs of this travel). Preferred Experience: Demonstrated public speaking skills Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system preferably Salesforce. Knowledge of vendors within the Annual Giving area. Knowledge of MS products (Word, Share Point and Excel). All submissions should include a cover letter and resume.
