This attorney will support CarMax and its captive finance division – CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) – as an associate on the Finance Legal Team. This includes providing legal counsel and operational risk management for compliance with consumer laws relevant to CarMax and CAF’s Compliance Management System (CMS), including TILA, ECOA, GLBA, FCRA, ECOA (Fair Lending), FDCPA, SCRA, EFTA, TCPA, UDAAP, Bankruptcy, their state law equivalents, state Retail Installment Sales Acts, and UCC Article 9.This attorney will provide legal guidance and oversight of CarMax’s sales finance licensing activities.As CarMax continues to grow and explore new opportunities, this attorney may provide legal expertise and support of special projects, digital initiatives, and new features and products.What you will do – essential responsibilities

Analyze and deliver legal guidance on several subject matters under the CAF CMS, with responsibility for analyzing regulatory developments, owning policy statements, reviewing procedure documents and job aids, assessing compliance risks, supporting remediation efforts, resolving regulatory consumer complaints, and supporting audit and monitoring functions.Coordinate with various CarMax and CAF operations partners to address compliance concerns with practical recommendations, support operational changes and process improvements, and remediation efforts, as necessary.Additional responsibilities may include managing litigation, supporting service provider agreements relevant to CAF’s operations, developing and managing various credit services related forms, and counsel on special projects as assigned.Provide legal guidance to and management oversight of paralegals.Skillsets and characteristics desired for this role

This role requires a self-motivated, conscientious individual who has strong attention to detail and a willingness to continuously learn and grow.The candidate for this role should exhibit strong analytical and reasoning skills required in connection with researching and analyzing laws, assessing impacts on business processes, and making practical recommendations to business departments that effectively describe legal and operational risks.Strong written and verbal communication skills are key to effectively communicate legal concepts and positions to associates, all levels of management, outside counsel, opposing counsel, and regulatory authorities.A good teammate, willing to practice law with a small, closely-knit legal team.Work Location and Arrangement:

This role will be based out of the Kennesaw Georgia Auto Finance location or the Richmond Virginia Home Office location and have a Hybrid work arrangement.Work Authorization:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.Qualifications and Requirements

A law degree.A member in good standing with the bar of a U.S. jurisdiction.5 or more years of legal practice experience or other comparable experience.Previous financial services or other regulatory experience preferred.About CarMax
