Chief Advancement Officer (CAO)
YWCA St. Paul is seeking a dynamic Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to spearhead our comprehensive advancement strategy. In this pivotal role, you will oversee fundraising, communications, marketing, and public relations efforts. Your key responsibilities will include designing and implementing initiatives to boost philanthropic revenue, strengthen community partnerships, and elevate the organization’s visibility.
You will collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to align financial objectives with fundraising strategies. This role also involves providing direct supervision to the marketing, communications, and grant-writing teams, along with contracted staff. Additionally, you will manage our donor database, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and assess the impact of advancement activities to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive advancement plan for fundraising, marketing, and communications.
Lead and mentor the Advancement team, promoting collaboration and accountability.
Supervise marketing, communications, and grant-writing staff to align with organizational goals.
Contribute to senior leadership discussions on growth and sustainability.
Fundraising & Development:
Drive fundraising through major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and events.
Cultivate relationships with high-net-worth individuals and foundations to enhance support.
Oversee donor engagement strategies, including research and communication.
Collaborate with the CFO to align financial and fundraising goals, setting annual targets with leadership.
Database & Reporting Management:
Manage and optimize the donor database for accurate record-keeping and compliance.
Establish and track KPIs to evaluate fundraising and retention efforts.
Analyze data to assess progress and recommend improvements.
Marketing & Communications:
Develop and manage public relations and communication strategies to boost visibility.
Oversee marketing materials, annual reports, newsletters, and digital content.
Collaborate with program teams to showcase success stories.
Partnerships & Community Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and organizations.
Represent YWCA St. Paul at community events and with the media.
Board & Financial Collaboration:
Work with the CFO to ensure alignment of development and financial strategies.
Liaise with the Board's Advancement Committee on updates and progress.
Additional Responsibilities:
Represent the organization at a minimum of three community events annually (16+ hours).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, or Business
Minimum of 8-10 years of senior-level fundraising and/or advancement experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Proven track record in securing major gifts, managing development teams, and driving comprehensive advancement campaigns.
Proven 7 years of professional experience in strategic initiatives in a non-profit organization.
Experience in grant and fiscal administration.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage a wide variety of stakeholders.
Experience overseeing and managing donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and utilizing data for decision-making and strategy development.
Ability to set and evaluate KPIs to measure progress, impact, and the effectiveness of development efforts.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable strategies.
Minimum 7 years of experience supervising marketing, communications, grant-writing, and contracted staff; and demonstrated success in building and motivating diverse populations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with skills in managing time and meeting deadlines.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and drive change in a rapidly evolving industry.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or a related field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
Access to reliable transportation.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Must be able to pass background check, pre-employment drug testing, and reference checks.
Supervision:
3 FTEs
Working Conditions:
Chief Advancement Officer will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The position may require flexible hours, occasional evening, or weekend hours to accommodate YWCA St. Paul activities and events. Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time, lift fifteen pounds at a time, and commute to other facilities when necessary.
