The Head of Software Engineering:
Data Platforms is responsible for the internal and external data platform strategy. The internal data platform strategy will digitally transform our data capabilities, making it easy to onboard and transform new datasets. The external data delivery strategy will develop the next generation of customer data delivery capabilities.
As a key Leader of the Technology Organization, the Head of Software Engineering: Data Platforms will lead the execution of the data platform strategy leveraging a portfolio of teams and programs that include software engineering, data engineering, data operations, data architecture, and governance.
Key Responsibilities: People Management & Talent Development: Lead, inspire, and manage a globally distributed, cross-functional organization, ensuring that all team members are engaged and performing at their best.
Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth by implementing structured upskilling programs, talent development initiatives, and succession planning.
Actively mentor and coach engineering managers, helping them grow into more effective leaders and nurturing future leadership within the organization.
Promote a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and collaboration across teams, ensuring that each team member is aligned with the overall goals and mission of the organization.
Develop strategies for identifying and nurturing high-potential employees, ensuring that the organization has the talent required to meet current and future challenges.
Platform Strategy & Execution: Oversee the Data Platform strategy, ensuring it intelligently links all of S&P Dow Jones Indices datasets internally and with the broader S&P Global via an API strategy.
Maintain and enhance the Data Ingestion Platform, evaluating next-generation GenAI capabilities.
Lead the evolution of data architecture and governance, ensuring the organization adopts best practices while maintaining current standards.
Partner with commercial teams and customers to build capabilities that meet customer needs across multiple delivery methods (API, Streaming, Real-Time, FTP, Cloud Marketplaces, etc.).
Development Management: Collaborate with customer-facing peers to create and deliver on multi-year roadmaps that align with business objectives.
Manage and build high-performing teams, both on-shore and off-shore, ensuring seamless collaboration and productivity.
Drive the transformation from multiple applications and tools into unified platforms, setting and vetting the architecture direction of our systems.
Develop and implement a GenAI strategy for data ingestion, quality, and transformation.
Oversee the migration of legacy applications to forward-looking platforms, identifying and consolidating duplicate functionalities, infrastructure environments, and teams.
Agile Responsibilities: Provide ongoing coaching to agile teams, ensuring they work efficiently and meet their sprint goals.
Mentor team members, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.
Conduct effective one-on-ones with direct reports, ensuring they are working at capacity and meeting their deadlines.
Resource projects effectively, creating new teams as needed, and holding accountability for project resourcing.
Technology Operations: Ensure production operations achieve 99.99% uptime, partnering with infrastructure teams to manage AWS environments effectively.
Lead technology audit compliance efforts in line with regulatory requirements.
Stay current with modern software development technologies, guiding the team in adopting best practices and emerging tools.
Experience: Proven background in software development, with a deep technical understanding of building Big Data & Data Platforms.
Prior experience managing large and diverse teams.
Extensive experience in managing and developing talent, particularly in a leadership role that involves mentoring and coaching other leaders.
Prior experience in cloud-based software development (AWS or Azure) and partnering with Product Management in an agile SDLC.
Experience in a regulated industry with a strong understanding of compliance standards (e.g., SSAE16/SOC2/ISO).
Expertise in managing high-performing agile teams, including both on-shore and off-shore teams, with a focus on global development.
Previous architecture experience with large-scale cloud-based software, including data ingestion and federated data platforms.
Technologies: Broad experience with database technologies like SQL, NoSQL, DeltaLake, DataLakes, Postgres, and Oracle.
Proficiency in AWS big data and serverless technology.
Familiarity with memory caching, Java web application development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST, JSON, and XML.
Experience in API Development and API Gateways.
Knowledge of Cloud Marketplaces such as SnowFlake, DataBricks, AWS, Google, etc.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Technology.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science.
At least 12+ years of software development experience.
Experience in building platforms in AWS.
Experience in scaling SCRUM, preferably SAFe.
Advanced knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and relational data modeling.
Ability to collaborate and brainstorm in a team environment.
Technical certification and AWS certification are a plus.
Compensation/Benefits Information:

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $157,941 to $250,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
