Senior Cybersecurity Systems Engineer

Position Overview: OMNI Consulting Solutions is seeking a
Senior Cybersecurity Systems Engineer
to provide expert-level security management and support for systems across various stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This role involves assessing, designing, and implementing security requirements, collaborating with defense contractors and program managers to ensure robust security controls, and aligning risk mitigation strategies with system architecture and operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: System Lifecycle Security Management:
Participate in acquisition and CONOP meetings (e.g., PMR, PDR, CDR) to understand operational needs and security requirements for systems across different SDLC stages. Design and develop security requirements to mitigate risks while ensuring systems maintain their full operational capabilities.
Risk Mitigation and Control Implementation:
Engage in architecture-level and implementation-level meetings to retain a system-wide security perspective and apply risk mitigation strategies at appropriate levels. Select and customize controls from the NIST SP 800-53 catalog to meet specific system needs, assess residual risks, and provide recommendations to the Authorizing Official.
Contractor Guidance and Verification:
Guide and validate defense contractors' work to ensure compliance with program requirements, goals, and industry best practices. Participate in technical discussions, trade studies, and working groups to support informed decision-making.
Stakeholder Communication:
Interface with program managers to communicate security goals, strategies, and mitigations, addressing their priorities for cost and schedule without compromising security.
Security Assessments:
Review system and network artifacts, conduct security assessments against selected control baselines, and evaluate software and hardware for security integrity prior to network integration.
Qualifications:
Experience:
10-15 years of relevant technical experience, including a demonstrated ability to assess, articulate, and mitigate security risks across complex systems. Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Clearance:
Active TS/SCI is required. Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of DoD security requirements (DoD 8500.1-M, JSIG) and NIST SP 800-53 controls. Demonstrated technical proficiency in at least one cybersecurity domain, such as communications, networks, embedded systems, software, or system testing. Experience with Special Access Programs, acquisition programs, software engineering, or code review.
Certifications:
IAM Level II (e.g., CISSP, CISM) required. Additional sub-field certifications (e.g., CCSP, AWS Solutions Architect, OSCP) are highly desirable. Skills:
Strong research skills and a desire to learn new and emerging technologies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Travel:
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for program meetings. Secret clearance ARE WE THE ONE?
