Overview
Senior product managers at RFA are strategic partners who work with leadership in RFA's editorial, creative, and technical teams to assess the needs of our audience and staff, craft product solutions to meet those needs, gather feedback and create alignment on next steps, guide the implementation of our plans, and communicate and evaluate results.
Reporting to the Director of Digital Operations and Innovation, the senior product manager in this role will be the primary product leader in the implementation of the Arc XP content management system across RFA, partnering with leaders across the organization including the CTO and his leadership team and the executive and managing editors to craft products and workflow strategies to meet the complex digital publishing needs of the organization as a whole and the individual needs of each RFA and BenarNews language service.
Responsibilities
Lead the rollout of the Arc XP system across RFA language services.Own the product relationship between RFA and Arc XP.Propose, prototype, launch, assess and adapt processes for developing web product features, integrating distribution and promotion strategies while improving production workflows.Lead rfa.org website strategy from a product perspective.Align with leaders across RFA to craft CMS and web strategy and drive results.Gather and prioritize requirements for future digital development.Lead cross-functional project teams to align editorial, technical and analytical operations for digital products.Conduct training on SEO best practices, analyze and engage newsroom staff on SEO tactics, and communicate progress to stakeholders.Partner with language service and audience teams to develop data-driven product strategies to build strong relationships with audiences in target markets.Provide updates and feedback to all teams, including senior stakeholders, during the ideation and development of digital products.Monitor trends in the news media industry for innovative approaches to content, platforms and processes.Advocate for RFA audiences and journalists to ensure their needs are considered in strategic decision-making and product development.Collaborate with trainers to plan and execute training on changes to best practices, emerging tools and workflows.Mentor more junior product management colleagues.Coordinate with publishing support team to align training and support activities with editorial priorities.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications
10+ years of product management experience with a background in digital journalism.Demonstrated experience creating and implementing product solutions for complex technological and workflow problems.Demonstrated experience in working directly with high-level stakeholders.Demonstrated experience in balancing limited resources and managing multiple streams of work with minimal supervision.Bachelor's Degree in the related field of studies, including but not limited to Journalism, Information Technology.Hands-on working experience of content management systems implementation. Experience with Arc XP is strongly preferred.Proven experiences of SEO best practices and how technology impacts content presentation, distribution, discoverability, and user experience.Proven ability to launch and develop new digital products while working across multi-cultural teams.Strong knowledge of digital journalism, production workflows, and distribution channels.Experience managing digital products utilizing non-Latin and right to left scripts.Strong knowledge of industry standards for product design, content formats and product management.Strong sense of news judgment and a keen eye for detail.Strong audience-centric mindset.Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in other RFA target languages is a plus.
