Forklift Operator

General:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for managing the movement and staging of pallets, product, and trailers to and from the shipping dock, plant warehouse, and scales. The driver maintains order on the truck yard, loads trailers of product, and stages trailers for operations. The forklift operator/yard dog driver ensures the safe and correct movement of bins and/or trailers for product. The position reports to the Shipping Supervisor w/ primary work schedule of Tuesday - Friday (days) 7:00am - 5:00pm with flexibility to work daily overtime, some Monday's, early or late shift, and weekends, as needed.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities:Operates with a safety-first mindset to move & load product, stage trailers to and from the yard and loading locationsMaintains order of the truck yard, loads product trailers, and stages trailers for shipping operationsAssists with docking / undocking trailers and ensures safe and correct movement of product and trailersInspects containers and performs yard checksSafely loads product onto trailers, keeps accurate load documentation & delivery paperworkKeeps the equipment, warehouse, and storage lot clean and in proper order; completes on-going housekeepingWorks within GMP, safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality workWillingly learns new skills, cross trains others, and trains new vehicle drivers on safety proceduresPerforms other assigned duties as directed by supervisor/managerRequirements
Education:
High school diploma or GED (Min.);Experience:
Working knowledge / experience in Yard dog equipment operationMaterial handling & forklift experience- (required)CDL; truck driving experience (preferred)Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
Strong experience operating/ troubleshooting yard jockey equipmentCDL / Truck driving experience (preferred / not required)Solid understanding of food safety & animal welfare complianceSelf-directed team player w/ good communication / interpersonal skillsAble to work in fast-paced environment with minimum supervisionBasic computer and math skillsPhysical Requirements:
Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 12 hrs./shiftWork safely indoors & outdoors in varying temperatures; wet environment (e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees)Benefits
