Closing Date:11/17/2024Who We Are:The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a CDL licensed Bus Driver with a PS endorsement for the Transportation Department for the 2024-2025 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Bus Driver you are required to:Be twenty-one (21) years of age with at least five (5) years of driving experiencePossess no more than four (4) points on driving record (abstract) within the last three (3) years from the Bureau of Motor VehiclesOperate vehicle in accordance with local, state, and national traffic safety laws, pupil transportation standards of the State and Local Board of EducationSafely transport students to and from school and other school sponsored events, following established routes and schedulesMaintain or be eligibile to obtain an Ohio School Bus Driver Certification.Have a High School diploma or eqivalentAs a Bus Driver you will:
Safely transports students to and from school and other school sponsored events following established routes and schedules.Operates vehicle in accordance with local, Ohio, and national traffic safety laws, pupil transportation standards of the State and Local Board of Education (e.g., speed, railroad tracks, etc.); operates vehicle safely with respect to road and traffic conditions.Complete daily pre-trip inspections (e.g., checks fuel, oil, lights, first aid kit, emergency equipment, tires, brakes, student damage and other safety problems, etc.) as detailed on required written form.Maintains discipline on vehicle by enforcing all school bus regulations and board policies; reports disciplinary concerns to the appropriate authority in writing.Supervises students as they board, ride and depart from the bus.Maintains cleanliness of bus (e.g., sweeps out bus, washes exterior of bus weekly, washes interior of bus monthly, cleans front and back windows, etc.).Maintains security of the vehicle by removing the keys, parking in a safe location or assigned parking space; activates parking brake and closes all windows, hatches and doors.Reports immediately in writing to the mechanic or supervisor any mechanical problems that the driver may be aware of in the engine, chassis or body.Reports any road or traffic conditions that may necessitate route changes; reports traffic violations that endanger passengers.Cooperates with school staff and community members.Prepares and files with the supervisor route sheets and seating charts and revises when changes are made.Schedules and supervises emergency evacuation drills a minimum of three (3) times a year.Properly operates 2-way radio when appropriate.Maintains for all special education routes, current name, address, phone (if available), emergency contact person for each child and is familiar with the child's handicapping condition.Lifts and manages special needs students up to fifty (50) lbs and moves up to fifty (50) feet.Prepares required records and reports in a timely manner as instructed by supervisor.Fuels bus daily using computer key cards and maintains accurate records of any other fluids added on appropriate forms.
What We Offer:As a contracted employee, this position works a minimum of 5 hours per day, 188 days per year.Monday - Friday
Starting salary is $22.08 per hour.
