The mission of the International Institute of New England (IINE) is to create opportunities for refugees and immigrants to succeed through resettlement, education, career advancement and pathways to citizenship. One of the oldest and largest human services organizations for New Americans in the region, IINE serves more than 9,000 people each year in Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts, and Manchester, New Hampshire. Our programs include case management, youth and family services, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), employment and skills training, and immigration legal services.

Position Title:
Driver
Department : Programs, GeneralReports to : Program Admin AssistantSupervises : N/AStatus : Part-Time, On-CallJob Location : Lowell, MAPosition Format : On-sitePay Rate : $20/hourOverviewIINE Drivers provide transportation services for staff and clients on an as-need basis. This position is an on-call role which does not guarantee a certain number of hours. Once hired, Drivers are added to a database that is updated regularly. When a driver is required, staff contact those individuals in the database and arrange a time and space for them to provide those services.
Responsibilities
Provide transportation services to and from the airport, picking up newly arrived refugees and bringing them to their new home.Facilitate communication for clients with limited English proficiency, work with interpreter to support communication with newly arrived client.Ensure newly arrived refugee clients are settled in their new homes and know how to use all appliances in the home.Provide transportation services for employees, clients, and/or other individuals for meetings, interviews, medical appointments, etc.Have access to car seats as needed and support young clients in accessing safe transportation in the car.Participate in related workshops / program activities, as needed.Answer inquiries from staff, clients, and other individuals.Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.Required Skills/Abilities
Current Driver's License with excellent driving record and access to reliable transportation.Comfort in navigating the Boston, Lowell, and/or Manchester areas on public transit.Interest in international, refugee, and asylee issues.Excellent communication skills.Extremely well organized, detail oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.High-levels of discretion and professionalism in dealing with confidential information;Patience and sensitivity towards the needs of clients.Experience working with multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and international populations preferred, but not required.Work Environment Conditions
Travel to/from IINE office and/or other meeting or appointment locations, as needed, by motor vehicle.Physical Demands
Requires sitting in vehicle for long periods of time when transporting staff and/or clients.May require extensive driving throughout the community.Requires helping clients with luggage.Requires installing car seats as needed.
Covid-19 Policy
IINE does not require applicants for most positions to show proof of Covid-19. Some federal contracts, however, require IINE staff to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and some immigration status adjustments, such as a Green Card, require proof of Covid-19 vaccination as well. Consequently, for some positions, IINE staff may be required to show proof of vaccination, and in others, IINE staff will be supporting clients who are required by law to have proof of vaccination in order to adjust their status in the United States.
