What You Will Be Doing

The Managing Attorney-Regional (MA-R) guides the litigation process from commencement to conclusion. The MA-R renders advice on a wide range of procedural and related issues arising in all stages of litigation and regulatory proceedings, focusing on federal, state and local rules of procedure and rules of court and other tribunals. The MA-R oversees the day-to-day operations of the assigned regional offices, ensuring court filings, calendaring and other litigation-related tasks are completed in compliance with applicable rules and practices.

About This Role

Provide legal analysis to case teams about procedural and related issues in federal, state and local court cases and proceedings before regulatory agencies.

Advise members of the Litigation Department and other litigation practice groups on court rules, civil and criminal procedure, filing protocol, and the calculation of deadlines.

Review court documents submitted to the MAO for accuracy and compliance.

Perform legal research and analysis across U.S. jurisdictions and leverage technology to streamline the monitoring and distribution of court filings.

Oversee incoming court documents and office correspondence to manage calendaring and docketing for regional offices.

Assist with the development and implementation of MAO goals, objectives, and policies.

Recommend procedural changes in support of strategic advancements, goals, and objectives.

Prepare and present in-house CLE programs.

Manage department administration and work collaboratively with litigation department and other business professionals.

Recruit, hire, train, motivate and develop MAO team members.

Contribute to the Firm's Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Display professionalism, quality service and a “can do” attitude to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print communications over the telephone and in person.

Required Skills

Extensive knowledge of federal and state procedural rules and practices. Familiarity with New York, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and/or Washington D.C. federal and state procedural rules and practices preferred.

Highly proficient in searching for and retrieving information from court-related databases (e.g., PACER, Bloomberg Law, LexMachina) and other on-line sources of case information.

Familiarity with docket management software (e.g., CourtAlert, eDockets, CompuLaw or equivalent).

Must be highly knowledgeable regarding litigation practice in the relevant court systems and their rules and be able to quickly and accurately determine which filings and documents trigger future deadlines.

Must be comfortable and familiar with locating, accessing, and navigating various court websites and databases.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent presentation skills.

Ability to multitask and perform at a high-level in a fast-paced working environment.

Ability to provide excellent client service. Receptive and responsive to client needs. Solution-driven.

Ability to effectively collaborate and develop productive working relationships with team members, administrative groups, and clients (both internal and external).

Required Experience

At least seven years of experience and at least three years’ experience within a Managing Attorney’s/Clerk’s office in a supervisory role or litigation practice.

Education:

JD required; must be an active member and in good standing with a U.S. state related to Wilmer Hale offices or immediately waiver eligible. Bar membership, active and in good standing required for home office jurisdiction.
