As a contractor for Smith Johnson, you are eligible for medical, dental, life, disability. Smith Johnson pays for 70% of your medical and dental and 100% of life and disability. Smith Johnson believes in taking care of our contractors.Job SummaryOur client is looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst/Consultant to support them in collecting, integrating, coding, querying, and reporting data. The selected Contractor will:Develop and maintain systems for collecting, storing, and analyzing data from various sources within the corrections systemCreate dashboards and reports that provide insights into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as recidivism rates, program participation and effectiveness, staff turnover, and operational costsUse predictive analytics to identify trends and forecast future challenges within the correctional systemAnalyze data to recommend optimal resource allocationCollaborate with client staff to implement and design the O-Track system, ensuring smooth integration of complex datasetsProvide regular oral and written reports and project updates to clientPrimary Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe BI Consultant will perform the following tasks:Learn and research current client systems and the O-Track programCreate data models in BI dashboards, focusing on Releases and Length of Stay (LOS) AdmissionsDevelop and maintain a standard Date table with release and LOS data from the client systemProvide updates to the Executive Team on Power BI work and progressConduct KPI research, data gathering, and review scriptsRefine the data gathering process for KPIsUpdate grievance metrics with information provided by Subject Matter ExpertsCreate popups for KPI cardsWork on data and Power BI development, planning detailed reportsTest the security of Power BIWork with client staff and continue coordination on CognosCollaborate with client on server permissions, BI appearances and features, and implementing suggestionsConduct KPI-HR research, troubleshooting, and implement solutionsCreate a data dictionary, scripting and import scriptsCreate table scripts and stored proceduresGather data for Human Resources and Board of Pardons and Parole changesLearn procedures in InformixCode logic into tablesDevelop reports on inmate populations, grievances, available beds, etc.Discuss project requirements with key stakeholders to determine objectives, timeframe, and deliverablesCollaborate with the data warehouse administration on design and performance needsCollaborate with the data warehouse administration on data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources such as on-premise Informix databases and eventually PostgreSQL from AWS into BigQuery in GCPImplement data security best practices, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standardsDevelop and enforce data governance policies, data quality standards, and best practicesWork closely with data analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needsDocument business intelligence architecture, processes, and best practices.Provide training and support to team members and end-usersAccommodate work that needs to be performed both during and after business hoursOther tasks as assignedTypical Qualifications5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a similar roleProven experience developing BI solutions using Power BIStrong expertise in data integration, data transformation and loading (ETL) processes, and data warehousing concepts, including the ability to transform and model data from various sources working with large-scale datasets in cloud environmentsHands-on experience with predictive analytics, data modeling, and developing dashboards for executive useProficiency in documenting processes, creating data dictionaries, and maintaining BI architecture documentationKnowledge of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and best practicesStrong analytical, research, and organizational skills, with impeccable attention to detailKnowledge of SQL and scripting languages (Python, R) for data analysis and automationExperience with relational databases such as Informix, PostgreSQL, and understanding data warehouse technologies (BigQuery, GCP)Experience with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP)Understanding of regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security, particularly in a government or public service contextGood understanding of GitHub database version controlAbility to test and troubleshoot using appropriate methodologies and techniquesExcellent written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills requiredInteract with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalismFamiliarity with correctional or public safety systems and understanding of operational metrics specific to the corrections environment
