The Nursing Informatics Associate will provide direct on- and off-site assistance to Mercy's hospital facilities in support of documentation and patient care activities when using information systems software applications. Electronic Medical Record support, new employee education, documentation review and just in time training, go-live and upgrade support, optimization, and regulatory documentation compliance are some of the services provided by the Nursing Informatics Associate Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Works closely with Mercy's Hospital Facilities' nurses, the Nursing Informatics Coordinator, and the I/S Clinical Analyst Team to implement informatics solutions to support all areas of nursing, including the direct provision of care, establishing effective administrative systems, designing useful decision support systems, supporting documentation for regulatory compliance, managing and delivering educational experiences, enhancing lifelong learning and supporting nursing research. This position will require some travel to MHH and MWH. Works with end user staff in order to recommend and test optimal screen flows to insure successful implementation, administration, and documentation of new and existing clinical applications. Participates in education including onsite support, classroom, and phone support as appropriate for the Electronic Medical Record, especially as it relates to clinical content. Provides training for The Elsevier CPM clinical best practice model for new staff and in-services for existing staff for CPM improvement. Assists with Epic and CPM upgrades, including workflow analysis, build team support, curriculum design, and staff training. Responsible for newsletters and forms of communication to keep nursing updated on EMR issues, resolutions and changes. Consults with providers, leadership, physicians, and other clinicians to identify documentation and workflow problems and suggests resolutions to issues related to clinical software applications and functions. Requires process and application expertise, clinical operation understanding in a hospital patient care environment, and strong leadership skills to work with nursing staff and project team members to identify and resolve issues throughout the implementation and ongoing development of an inpatient electronic medical record in all three Mercy Health System hospitals. Provides ongoing nursing informatics support to physicians and nurses for the electronic inpatient record. Retrieves data for physicians when requested Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN or upon hire BSN completion agreement for enrollment in an accredited BSN Completion Program May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines) If hired prior to 1-1-14 in Winnebago County and prior to 9-1-14 in Rock, Walworth and McHenry Counties an ADN only is required.
Certification and Licensure Licensed as an RN in state of practice Approved CPR certification required within 90 days (Other certification per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP)
Skills and Abilities Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks and project components. Requires excellent teaching, educational, and organizational skills. Assignments are based on abilities and are normally received in the form of results expected and due dates. Only general procedures are available to guide work. Able to work with minimal supervision. May be required during implementation phases of software products to be on-call and work flexible hours. May include color blind test (per department guidelines) Special Physical Demands While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
