The mission of Advanced Technology is to develop and mature key technical discriminators through Contract Research and Development (CRAD) with our Science and Technology (S&T) customers, such as DARPA and Office of Naval Research (ONR). Through teamwork and collaboration across Raytheon and with our academic, industrial and government partnerships, we develop the next generation of advanced capabilities for the warfighter and our acquisition customers.

Raytheon is a world leader in the development and maturation of next-generation electro-optic (EO)/Infrared (IR) aperture materials having introduced numerous compositions to the marketplace over the past five decades. Polymers, Coatings and Metals for various applications. Our materials experts mature technologies for various sensor modalities including EO/IR, Radio-Frequency (RF) and Undersea Acoustics. We provide key materials solutions for next-generation Effectors including Hypersonics and High-Power Microwave (HPM) applications. AT customers require the most advanced technologies, and thus our projects require highly accomplished technical managers. The successful candidate will be leading a team of enterprise experts in the development and maturation of advanced materials. The candidate will hold responsibility for all phases of technical, financial, and schedule performance within the portfolio.

This role is onsite located in Andover, MA.

What You Will Do

Develop and win new opportunities in advanced materials including ceramics, metals, and coatings, for both emerging sensor and effector needs.Engage senior Government officials and budgetary stakeholders and commercial partners to start new science and technology opportunities that address warfighter capability gaps for Raytheon franchise programs.Work across the RTX enterprise to align technology with customer gaps in advanced materials, including ceramic apertures and coatings and metals.As part of the Raytheon AT team, directly influence long-term technical discrimination and next-generation capability roadmaps via new business (CRAD pursuits) and technical advice/inputs. The role also requires cross-mission area engagement to align CRAD and IRAD with mission area needs and accelerate transitions.Advise USG customers technical & programmatic roadmaps associated with new technology development. This role requires excellent communications skills and technical acumen to combat divergent internal USG and competitor views on a given technology.Generate new ideas for USG Contracted R&D investment, work with USG customers to build new development and demonstration programs, work internally within the RTX enterprise to train and recruit ENG and PMO staff qualified to execute these programs, and in certain strategic cases, act as overall program/technology chief engineer/architect.Maintain a Raytheon presence at Key technical conferences and meetingsTravel to Raytheon laboratories and customers is required on a periodic basisQualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 12 years of prior (chemical or materials engineering) experienceExperience in advanced materials development or related Research and Development projectsRelationship or network with US Government, Federally Funded R&D Center (FFRDC), industry, and / or academic technical and programmatic leaders in the R&D communityEngineering lead and / or program management experienceExperience in a multi-discipline environment working in Contract Research & Development, specifically in new business capture, proposal development, technology evaluation, program management, and technical contributionExperience in obtaining Intellectual Property on emerging technologiesThe ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.Qualifications We Prefer

PhD Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Physics disciplinesExcellent time management skills and ability to multi-task to achieve good results across multiple prioritiesAbility to work in a team environment and effectively direct, influence, motivate and supervise team membersIndividual must be widely regarded (inside and outside Raytheon) as a technical expert in advanced materials development and resulting applications.Experience with DoD Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARS)Experience in advanced ceramic and metal technologies, and US government and industry organizations and their test facilities and assetsExperience in advanced materials processing, characterization and maturation for use in next generation advanced technology systems.Experience leading multi-disciplined team of engineers and technologistsActive Top Secret ClearanceWhat We Offer

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
