Development Polymer Chemistry
Team in Johns Creek, GA. This person will conduct exploratory research to produce new knowledge and potential products; conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase chemistry's role in and contribution to the discovery and chemical approaches to meet exploratory objectives in product discovery. Develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, synthetic methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques. Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of projects.Job Title:

Johns Creek, GAKey Responsibilities:Perform lab-scale polymer synthesis, modification, purification, formulation and characterization.Highly motivated in laboratory research tasks and strong hands-on bench experience.Expertise in both development of materials and application in contact lens, ocular health and IOL production process to ensure compatibility between material and process.Develop an in-depth understanding of structure/property relationship in polymers, specifically the relationship between molecular architecture/morphology and bulk contact lens properties.Use relevant statistical techniques/methods to plan and execute experiments and to analyze experimental data. Experience in factorial design and mixture design are highly desirable.Handle, use, store and dispose of all lab/used chemicals as outlined in MSDS, SOP and other company prescribed, state and federal guidelines. Also, comply with all company established Health, Safety and Environment operational requirements.Document details on all planned and completed experiments including raw materials, experimental plans and procedures, results, data analyses and conclusions in company approved media such as lab notebooks, electronic databases, etc.File all new material concepts including monomer/polymer designs, syntheses, purification and formulation through invention disclosures and support patent filings as required to protect intellectual property.Provide timely communication on planned and completed work to the project & functional team members and leadership through written reports and presentations.Develop an external network of research partners/collaborators to complement internal competencies in the above mentioned research areas.Actively monitor competitor activities and patent & scientific literature for significant technical developments relevant to contact lens, ocular health and IOL products.Key Requirements/Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs).The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.5 Years of Relevant Experience.Work hours: 40.Travel Requirements: Up to 10% domestic.Relocation assistance: Yes.Sponsorship available: Yes.Alcon is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-Verify.
