NOVEC Solutions Telecomm (NS Telecomm) is an affiliated subsidiary of NOVEC (Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative). We market lit fiber optic capacity and dark fiber to commercial enterprises, government offices, and data centers.

SUMMARY

This position will require skills and experience routing and switching protocols using CIENA and/or Extreme Network equipment. This role is expected to know how to design, implement and troubleshoot various enterprise and wide-area networks, customer end-use premise equipment's Ethernet networks through hands-on experience in the field and in-house. Candidate should have excellent communication skills, passion for networking and a sincere commitment to be on 24-hour call for emergency network technical assistance.

This is a hybrid position at our Manassas, VA office. Preference will be given to local candidates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the design, install, maintenance, configure, and upgrade of NS communications systems and network hardware (e.g. muxs, hubs, routers, switches, cabling, servers, backup systems, interface cards, printers, modems, etc.) and software (e.g. operating systems, utility systems, security systems, etc.) to ensure the network is running at optimal performance levels.

Respond to 24-hour calls as available for emergency technical assistance to return network communications programs and systems to operational mode.

Assist in the communication of technical assistance and information to NS customers.

Assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of the NS wide-area network monitoring system.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree in computer Networking, Computer Science, Engineering or Business with a Computer Programming and/or Networking emphasis. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

1-3 years of experience with basic networking knowledge, Ethernet, TCP/IP, OSI model, routing and switching is a plus.

Knowledge of DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) is highly desired.

Experience setting up and managing networks (wired and wireless), PCs and servers is required.

Familiarity with DWDM/CWDM optical networks.

Windows and Linux skills are preferred.

Experience with network switching, such as configuring and turning-up ports, VLANs tagging and familiarity with spanning tree or Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) is desired.
