The MEP Team serves public sector clients with planning, design, and construction services for architectural and municipal infrastructure projects.
Projects include the design of HVAC, plumbing & fire protection for residence halls, offices, police & fire stations, and water & wastewater treatment plants.
This role
manages projects, provides technical guidance and assists with business development for the team. Primary Responsibilities Provides leadership and project management for MEP engineering projects and is accountable for project performance, technical quality and deliverables. Assigns project tasks and provides guidance and mentoring to other staff. Leads or assists with the development of project scope, budget and schedule and any subsequent fee negotiations or contract amendments. Collaborates with other in-house engineering teams (Electrical, Civil, and, Structural) on projects requiring MEP design services as well external architectural clients Monitors task assignments and deadlines and ensures QC/QA processes are implemented and followed for assigned projects. Actively supports the development of MEP staff through task assignments and mentoring. Assists the Area Manager with billing, monitoring project performance, workload forecasting, staff utilization and other administrative tasks. Collaborates on project pursuits with the Area Manager and develops relationships with existing clients and prospects Active participation with pertinent technical and trade associations. Position Requirements B.S. degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering and Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license are required. 10+ years of experience as a consulting engineer with a focus on the design of mechanical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) is desired. Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards for HVAC and plumbing designs (ASHRAE, NFP, etc.). Demonstrated project management experience including development of scope, schedule, and budget with accountability for project financial performance. Experience with interpreting and developing complex architectural drawings and 3D models and performing calculations to support design decisions. Proficient or knowledgeable with the capabilities of the following design and modeling tools is required: MS Office, Revit, Trane Load/Trace or Carrier/Hap. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or other ERP systems is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to make client presentations and develop/edit reports. A valid driver’s license is required with the ability to travel to client or project sites as needed.
