Through innovative partnerships, sustainable business investments, and comprehensive housing services, we aim to address the pressing needs of low-income individuals and families, while generating profits through hospitality ventures to support our mission-driven initiatives.

Position Summary:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will play a key leadership role in shaping the organization’s capital development, fundraising, and partnership strategies. This individual will be responsible for driving private and public funding efforts, building relationships with key stakeholders, and securing the capital necessary to support business investments that generate revenue for nonprofit cause-based initiatives, including supportive affordable housing.

The CDO will lead efforts to diversify funding streams, develop large-scale investment strategies, and oversee all aspects of fundraising to ensure sustainable growth and impact. They will work closely with the Managing Director, Board of Directors, and leadership team to implement initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Capital Development and Fundraising:

Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes securing investments, grants, private donations, and public funding to support both business ventures and nonprofit initiatives.

Cultivate and maintain relationships with a diverse group of funders, including private equity, hedge funds, government agencies, philanthropic foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.

Oversee efforts to identify, apply for, and secure public funding sources, including government grants, tax credits, and low-income housing programs to support affordable housing projects in NYC.

Identify private equity, venture capital, and other funding sources to generate capital for the organization’s business investments, hospitality ventures, and affordable housing residence projects.

Investment and Revenue Generation:

Oversee the onboarding and management of capital for business ventures that generate profits for nonprofit initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s portfolio, mission, and goals.

Collaborate with the CFO and Managing Director to identify revenue-generating opportunities, including new business models, social enterprises, and partnerships that support both the housing and hospitality business components of the organization.

Monitor financial performance of business investments and ensure returns are maximized to reinvest into cause-based initiatives.

Partnership and Relationship Building:

Maintain partnerships with stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including developers, real estate investors, housing agencies, and service providers.

Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and public forums to raise awareness and attract potential funders, partners, and investors.

Board and Leadership Collaboration:

Collaborate with the Managing Director to define organizational development goals and align fundraising and investment strategies with long-term growth objectives.

Provide regular reports to the Board on fundraising performance, capital development initiatives, and financial outcomes of business ventures.

Serve as a key advisor to the executive leadership team on matters related to capital development, investment strategy, and fundraising innovation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in business, nonprofit management, public administration, finance, or a related field preferred.

A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in fundraising, capital development, or business development, with a proven track record of securing public and private funding.

Extensive experience working with private investors, public funding agencies, foundations, and government grants in the housing, real estate, or nonprofit sectors.

Demonstrated success in developing and executing large-scale capital campaigns and revenue-generating business ventures.

Skills and Competencies:

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Strategic thinker with the ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities that generate both financial returns and elevate social impact.

Awareness of affordable housing finance, public funding mechanisms (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, tax credits), and impact investing in the nonprofit space.

Personal Attributes:

Highly organized, goal-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a timely manner.

Compensation:

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
