Role Description:The Specialist, Security Operations position will focus on assignments related to Protective Services management, crisis management, emergency preparedness, security training, incident investigation, and liaison with law enforcement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Develop, enforce, and regularly update standard operating procedures (SOPs) that define guard responsibilities, patrol schedules, and incident response protocols.Monitor guard performance through evaluations, incident reports, and regular assessments. Address any performance issues and provide additional training or corrective actions when needed.Oversee the regular patrols of security guards to ensure all areas are covered. Monitor the effectiveness of patrols and adjust as necessary.Lead and coordinate responses to security incidents (e.g., unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, suspicious activity). Ensure guards respond quickly and efficiently to threats and emergencies.Maintain detailed records of security incidents, guard activity, and operational issues. Prepare reports for upper management on the status of security operations and recommendations for improvements.Communicate and coordinate with external parties such as law enforcement, emergency responders, and security vendors when needed.Provide regular briefings to security guards, informing them of any new security protocols, changes in risk levels, or special events that require additional attention.Conduct regular checks to ensure security personnel follow protocols and that security equipment (CCTV, alarms, communication devices) is functioning properly.Carry out routine security audits to evaluate the effectiveness of current procedures and identify areas for improvement.Analyze daily and incident reports submitted by guards to identify trends or recurring security issues that need attention.Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns.Develop and maintain specialized performance metrics.Support/Conduct internal investigations in accordance with legal requirements and company policies.Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Manager, Security and/or Director, Security.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises personnel assigned to or associated with the Department of Security contractor personnel.
Key Working Relationships:
Interacts with employees at all levels throughout DC Water, government agencies, and other organizations on security related matters.
Skills & Qualifications:The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
Required Skills & Qualifications:Required Experience:
Four (4) years of relevant experience related to physical security operations, emergency response, managing Protective Services Officers, standard operating procedures, and security policies and principles.Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in security, criminal justice, or homeland security; or a high school diploma or GED and (8) years of relevant experience related to physical security operations, emergency response, managing Protective Services Officers, standard operating procedures, and security policies and principles.Required Skills:Strong leadership & team management skills.Expertise in analytical, planning & organizational skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Competency in using Microsoft Office suite.Required Languages:
English.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:Preferred Experience:
Experience in developing security policies, ensuring compliance; experience in conducting investigations including criminal, human resources, and/or safety incidents is preferred.Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of GENETEC - Physical Security Software; Knowledge of ORIGAMI - Risk Management System.
