Long term contract (potential to go permanent based on performance)Summary:The Temporary Water Quality Specialist is responsible for support activities to help ensure production and distribution of safe water for the public while meeting regulations and customer satisfaction. Areas of responsibility include: responding to customer inquiries about water quality and supporting activities related to maintaining online water quality monitoring. The Water Quality Specialist performs a series of duties related to customer complaints handling, which is a multiple step process involving calling back customers, problem investigation, and maintaining customer logs. An incumbent will report to the Water Quality Response Section Manager.Responsibilities:Supports customer complaints handling and coordinates customer sampling logistics. Communicates directly with customers to coordinate investigation and scheduling.Conducts support with special studies, full, pilot, and bench scale tests for the purpose of solving or evaluating water quality problems.Maintains and operates field analytical equipment. Conducts routine services and minor repairs to maintain all monitoring equipment in good operational condition. Prepares reagents and standards for routine and non-routine laboratory analyses and maintains records.Maintains and operates online water quality monitoring systems for contaminant detection. Conducts routine services and minor repairs to maintain all monitoring equipment in good operational condition.Qualifications:Ability to interact with customers regarding water quality complaints in an effective and professional manner; ability to deliver superior customer service.Knowledge and understanding of drinking water treatment processes, water distribution systems, water quality monitoring, and emergency response.Ability to interpret water quality data and identify anomalies.Knowledge of proper laboratory procedures and good laboratory practices (GLP).Knowledge of environmental Standard Operating Procedures, EPA Approved Methods, and Standard Methods procedures.Ability to gain knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets, Safety Manual, and all emergency procedures.Ability to appropriately use and maintain personal protective equipment.Skill in the use of laboratory computer programs.Skill in the use of spreadsheet and database tools to perform computational work.Skill in operation of analytical instrumentation including routine maintenance and minor repairs.Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.Ability to prepare comprehensive analytical reports.Ability to accurately perform chemical, bacteriological, or biological tests.Minimum Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering, chemistry, biology, or related scientific fields.Experience in the areas of drinking water monitoring and customer correspondence related to water supply and treatment/distribution system operation, and environmental laboratory analyses experience performing wet chemistry and microbiology testing.EEO EmployerApex Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
